• Provide a quick overview of the HEAP

• Through exploring the technologies used by the
  HEAP to advance its work:
   – expand the reach of HEAP to better coordinate pre-
     service and in-service programs in standards-based
     health education and assessment.
   – Determine interest in helping HEAP develop and
     fund a research agenda to show impact in HEAP’s
     efforts to improve teaching and learning in school
     health education and student health literacy

• Help us explore different fiscal models for HEAP
  to help the collaborative grow and be more
  inclusive.

 Collaborative of states and large education agencies.
   Members pay a yearly membership fee to join ($15,000)

 • Focus of this project is to:
    – modify the way teachers teach – adopt skills-based
      standards-based instructional practices
    – foster student acquisition of skills that lead to health
      literacy

 • Goal is to provide products, services, and networking to
   members to build their capacity to:
    – develop effective state training structures
    – document implementation
    – improve health, assessment & technology literacy of
      members, educators, students

    web-ex monthly or more, work on the cognitive

          PD tool to help members and trained teachers to produce more cognitively complex
            assessments

          Health related books, discussion questions, assessments teacher resources,
          aligned with Lexile levels
