  Development and Review (SDR) scheme
  at BSU
• Explain the principles of the scheme
• Follow the SDR flowchart

  in preparation for your review
Objectives of SDR


• To encourage staff to reflect on their own
  performance
• To provide staff with the opportunity for
  formalised, structured feedback on
  performance
• To communicate to all staff, through
  dialogue and discussion, the corporate
  goals of the institution
Strategic Objectives

 1. Continue to improve the quality and relevance of our academic provision.
 2. Deliver a high quality of student experience and increase the amount of
     employer responsive provision.
 3. Fulfil our HEFCE, TDA and CWDC contracts.
 4. Undertake research and scholarly activity.
 5. Raise income from non-governmental sources.
 6. Manage finances and assets in a sound, business-like fashion.
 7. Increase the number of international students at the university and taught
     provision in other countries.
 8. To take full advantage of technology in all our activities including e-learning
     tools to support all academic staff and students.
 9. Reduce, reuse and recycle wastes and to maintain and enhance biodiversity.
 10. Ensure equality of opportunity for staff and students and widen overall access
     to the university.
 11. Recruit and retain the highest quality staff.
Objectives of SDR


• To assist staff in setting objectives which
  are consistent with the goals of the
  institution
• To provide a structured process for
  identifying staff development needs
• To contribute to the personal and career
  development of staff
Principles of the scheme –

Preparation

Good preparation makes all the difference!

• Attend training if you have not had a SDR at BSU
  before
• Set aside time to reflect on your performance
• Complete a draft of the SDR form and send it to your
  line manager at least 2 weeks before the discussion.
  Read the step by step guide to the form to help you
• Ensure your diary is clear either side of the time
  allocated to the SDR discussion to allow you to give it
  your full attention
