Position Description
Title: Programmer Analyst - Business Intelligence
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Department: Information Technology
Position Summary:
The BI Programmer Analyst (PA) is responsible for developing solutions to
satisfy the reporting and analytical needs of internal customers and stakeholders,
independently and under guidance from a BA. The PA also provides second-
level support for incidents and the change management process, while working
with peers from other divisions and the core team ensure overall continuity of the
LNA-wide business intelligence strategy. Some travel (10%) may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Designs report layouts to maximize usability and business
relevance.
Develops Scorecards & Dashboards, Reports, OLAP Analytics
(Cubes).
Designs and executes test plans.
Supports existing BI implementation, with heightened support
expectations around key reporting periods, e.g., month-ends, etc.
Identifies and resolves issues and incidents.
Produces high quality documentation.
Results/Accountabilities
Reporting and analytic deliverables implemented as per agreed-
upon schedule.
Establishes KPIs around report and cube performance
Works with core DW and BI personnel to proactively identify and
resolve issues.
Follows established change management policies and procedures,
and participates in continuous improvement.
Incidents are resolved in a timely fashion, as per SLAs.
Relationships with Others Jobs:
Liaises with other application teams to coordinate
interdependencies and resolve issues.
Communicates to end-users and other analysts the data available
in various data marts for self-serve and super-user reporting.
Works with core data warehousing team to understand the data
warehouse contents.
Works with core BI team to understand the reporting environment,
manage performance and promote changes to the production
environment.
Work with BI business analysts to develop broad understanding of
all functional business areas.
Qualification Profile:
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor degree in computer science, information technology,
business systems or a related discipline
3 - 4 years of application development and maintenance
experience
Skills and Knowledge:
Business subject knowledge: knowledge of one or more of the
following cement business areas: marketing and sales, distribution,
or manufacturing / industrial systems.
IT capabilities: understanding of what systems can and cannot do.
Other:
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
Technology-Specific Requirements:
Must have 2+ years developing with Cognos toolset (Cognos8,
Cognos7 Impromptu and Powerplay).
Knowledge of data warehousing, data analytics, metadata
management and dimensional modeling.
Experience with SQL, database querying and other database
concepts.
