Ontario Data Analysis Project - Swine (ODAP-S)
The purpose of ODAP-S is to gain insight into the
competitiveness of Ontario farrow to finish swine farms.

This analytical tool is intended to provide invidual producers with the opportunity
to compare their farm performance against the ODAP-S average to identify where
improvements could be made in their farm operation.

ODAP results provide information at the farm level regarding production and financial benchmarks
as well as general management, business organization and demographic data.

Each year a report is prepared that summarizes the group results.

The ODAP average used in this tool is the average of data collected from a group of Ontario farrow to
finish farms for the 2008 business year.



The enterprise analysis is on a "per pig produced" basis. This is a calculated number. It will not
match the reproduction figures found in a production analysis which is usually solely based on head
marketed. The pigs produced number in this report is the number of market hog equivalents
produced by the swine operation, taking into account all production and inventory changes. The
number is standardized to represent the value of a market hog. This is done in order to get a
consistent analysis of costs. Weaner pigs are converted to market hog equivalents using a factor of
40% and SEW pigs are given a factor of 25%.
