BUSINESS CONTENT AUDITS FOR UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM PROPOSALS
Required for submissions to UPCC during Fall 2004 and later

Kennesaw State University undergraduate and graduate business programs are accredited by AACSB
International [The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business]. AACSB accredits
institutions rather than specific colleges or schools within the institution. Any undergraduate program
with 25% or more of its content in “traditional business subjects” is considered automatically subject to
AACSB accreditation review

Note that for KSU the concept of “traditional business subjects” [“TBS”] is defined by AACSB as the
following subjects that are delivered by faculty or programs administered by the Coles College of
Business –
Accounting, business law, decision sciences, finance (including insurance, real estate, and
banking), human resources, management, management information systems, management
science, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior, organizational
development, strategic management, supply chain management (including transportation and
        logistics), and technology management.
Economics is not considered a “TBS.”

During the spring semester of 2004, KSU’s UPCC approved adding a “business content audit” step to the
undergraduate curriculum approval process, effective fall semester, 2004. This step will be necessary for
any proposal for (1) a new major program, (2) a revision of an existing major program, (3) new or revised
minors, and (4) new or revised certificates. This step will not be necessary for proposals for new courses
or revisions to existing courses.

If you are submitting a proposal for a new/revised major or degree program, new/revised minor, or
new/revised certificate, please submit the appropriate business content audit paperwork as
described below and/or on the following pages.

For Proposals for New Degree Programs or Major Programs.

The process for evaluating new program proposals is outlined in the USG Academic Affairs Handbook,
Section 2.03.02: “New Academic Programs.” In the outline for “New Program Proposals,” Item 12
addresses accreditation issues. A new program’s business content should be audited by completing the
Business Content Worksheet, and the Worksheet should be included as part of the Item 12 assessment.
The KSU Dean of Undergraduate and University Studies is responsible for ensuring compliance.
