The buddies programme will provide volunteers, in particular newly retired professionals
and undergraduates, with an outlet to use their skills, knowledge and experience in a
community setting. They will be matched to a Civil Society Organisation with a specific
need. The programme will be running 4 buddies’ pathways – Funding, Finance, Business
and Marketing.


 Job Purpose
 To work within a 2 year programme, inspiring social action. Liaise with Sandwell
 Volunteer Centre. Recruit and support placement organisations for volunteer buddies
 delivering activities with voluntary and community organisations including: funding,
 business, marketing and finance. Ensure that organisations have appropriate policies and
 procedures in place to host volunteer buddies. Support the ongoing relationship of these
 placements and buddies. Monitor, report and evaluate as appropriate.



 Specific Duties
 Research and write volunteer agreements, policies and procedures.
 Liaise with coordinator and organisations and develop partnerships

 Work with voluntary and community sector organisations to assess their volunteer
 buddying needs.
 Generating appropriate volunteer buddying opportunities and role descriptions based on
 the needs of the organisation.
 Actively promoting of the role and function of volunteer buddies.
 Ensure there is appropriate support, policies and procedures for volunteer buddies.
 Promote volunteer buddying through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns.
 Provide inductions and training.
 Monitor, support, and motivate volunteer buddies and their work.
 Celebrate volunteers and buddying by organising celebration events.
 Offer advice and information to volunteer buddies and organisations through face-to-face,
 telephone and email contact.
 Support the Coordinator and other staff to organise profile-raising events to attract new
 volunteer buddies and placement opportunities.
 Attend internal and external meetings.
 Support organisations with good practice resources and procedures, for example, the
 reimbursement of expenses.
 Keep up to date with legislation and policy related to volunteering and making any
 necessary modifications to accommodate changes.
 Work with multiple agencies across different sectors in order to establish good working
 relationships to influence decisions about volunteering.
 Work with coordinator in writing funding bids and fundraising to make project sustainable.
 Work with Coordinator and Capacity Building Manager to Monitor outcomes and outputs,
 evaluate activities and write reports for funders, managers and trustees.
 Maintain databases and undertake any other administrative duties.
 General Duties
 Understand and promote the priorities, activities and best interests of SCVO and of the
 third sector in Sandwell.

 Co-operate in the formulation of and development of systems for monitoring and
 evaluating the work of SCVO
 Treat with confidentiality any information about any organisation, its staff, trustees or
 clients that is sensitive, personal or private
 Provide information as appropriate and as requested to the production of the SCVO
 newsletter, other publications and databases
 Participate in supervision and annual personal reviews
 Identify personal and professional development needs in order to fulfil the ongoing
 requirements of the job
 Work at all times with due regard for health and safety
 Work harmoniously with colleagues and external partners; supporting others in their work
 Cover the work of colleagues during holidays or absences
 Attend SCVO staff meetings and other relevant internal meetings

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

      2 years experience of working within the voluntary and community sector
      Knowledge and experience of placing or working with volunteers within voluntary
       and community sector organisations.
      Experience of writing agreements, policies and procedures for volunteering
      Experience of working within a busy team to deliver a project to prescribed
       outcomes and targets
      Good understanding of volunteering, the voluntary sector or partnership working.
      Excellent planning and organisational skills.
      Excellent communication and presentation skills.
      Good IT skills including a working knowledge of MS Office applications.
      Ability to use SCVO’s database as a monitoring tool (training provided)
      A good understanding of the importance of confidentiality and data protection
       issues
