Duties Initially to develop an appropriate and cost-effective Disaster Recovery strategy, and create
the foundations for a full Business Continuity Plan. Later extended to cover Backup
strategy, Year 2000 mitigation, Supply Chain Year 2000 compliance liaison, Station
Emergency Response, and support cover. IT Supervisor since November 1998. Revision and
implementation of IT Strategy and 5-Year Plan.
• Devised, implemented and tested an effective Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
plan, which was successfully audited in November 1999.
• Redefined department operation to allow lower staffing-levels (fewer contractors) with
enhanced service through the use “On Demand” training for users, enhanced helpdesk
facilities with self-help features, and the training of key members of the Administrative
Assistant (secretarial) pool as a first-line support resource.
• Obtained the budget and full Management support for the roll-out of MS Office 97, MS
Project 98, MS Outlook 98, with Royal Blue Helpdesk and PTS Learning Solutions training
to help ensure success.
• “Tamed” MS Exchange Server with Mailtraq software to ensure external-facing e-mail is
compliant with Internet “RFC” standards.
• Oversaw implementation of Station Intranet with Internet (mainly e-mail, some web) access
for selected staff.
• Successful Y2k programme.
• Training and handover to my successor. My holding this interim post has both allowed him
time to ensure Y2k compliance of Station Control Systems (a far more daunting task than
IT systems compliance) and allowed me to groom him for the role he is now to undertake.

Duties To ensure the smooth running of the Computer Department (data entry, production
reporting, programming etc.), the data processing equipment. WAN links to customers,
other UK offices and Israeli Head Office. Occasional international travel. Representing
Delta at external meetings (technical and non-technical) with Marks & Spencer. Support &
training (user & technical.) System security liaison with Marks & Spencer. Specification,
evaluation, implementation & roll-out of new package software, hardware, cabling systems

• Managed roll-out of PC/Windows-based Contract Management Software (CMS) utilising
remote links with Marks & Spencer & e-mail (X.400 & Internet) connectivity to all users.
• Obtained budget for, and co-ordinated, recabling of offices to multiply-redundant Cat-5
100baseT-ready standards, replacing older and bulkier IBM Type-1 cabling.
• Specified and project-managed the evaluation, selection, implementation, testing and
roll-out of new package software (JBA Style/400) with considerable bespoke changes and a
change of platform from System/36 to AS/400, followed by upgrade/migration from ClSC to
RlSC. Co-ordinated end-user and IT staff training. Maintained parallel running until stability
of new system accepted and signed off.
