Standard Certificate Instructions
The State Board for Educator Certification has implemented a new certification process -
referred to as “SBEC-Online”. This is the method you will use to complete your application for
your Standard Teaching Certificate. Questions? Call SBEC at 1-888-863-5880.
This is what you will need:
Access to the internet
An e-mail account (if you do not have one, you can sign up for one in this process)
Access to a printer

Instructions:
Step 1: Access the SBEC website: www.sbec.state.tx.us
Step 2: Select ‘Apply for my Certification’
Step 3: Select ‘Login’
Step4: Enter username and password
Step 5: If you haven’t accessed the SBEC system in more than 30 days, update any
missing information on this page (Educator Profile Setup)
Select ‘Continue’
Step 6: Select ‘Applications’
Step 7: Select ‘Standard Certificate Texas Program’
Step 8: Select ‘Apply for Certification’
Step 9: Answer the questions regarding your background
Select ‘Region 04 ESC (Alternative)’ as your entity
Type your certification area
Select ‘Apply’
Step 10: Select ‘Credit card’ or ‘Electronic check’ option to make payment and complete
application
You may check your status on-line at any time.
