NOSC Commanding Officer Slating Business Rules
1. The NOSC slate process will take into consideration
personal desires, professional development, previous
billet history and the needs of the Navy in that order.
2. This process is for eligible, LT, LCDR and CDR NOSC
billets (CAPT NOSC billets are detailed using a
separate process).
3. The applying officer must be NOSC CO screened in his
or her current rank to be considered for this slating
process.
4. Officers screened for Command may remain in the slate
“bank” for two years.
Interactive Business Rules:
1. Available NOSC CO billets are posted on the NPC NOSC
CO Screen & Slate website.
2. Interested FTS Officers will rank all NOSCs for which
they are pay grade eligible on the upcoming slate and
email their desires to the FTS Placement Officer and
their individual detailer. Briefly state your reasons
for these desired locations.
3. Preference list should also include one ranked bid for
deferred slating (name will be dropped from current
consideration). Utilized this tool to indicate at
what point your geographic preferences outweigh your
desire for command. For some service members,
flexibility in PRD affords deferral to the following
quarterly slate, whereas others might be giving up a
chance for command by deferring. The number of slots
for deferral are based on the needs of the navy (15
applicants for 10 commands = 5 deferrals, 10
applicants for 10 commands = 0 deferrals)
4. NOSC PRDs will be set at 24 months. However, PRDs are
subject to change based on the officer’s career
progression and the needs of the Navy.
The goal is to slate NOSCs 9 to 9 months out and create
increased stability in the detailing process.
Slate preferences should be submitted to the FTS Placement
officer, LCDR Ty Bush tyrone.bush@navy.mil and your
respective detailers. Service members are highly
encouraged to provide amplifying remarks regarding each of
their preferences.
