Proposed future developments
Rationalising data collection:
Review of core datasets
Review of definitions and data collection proformas
Current SSCA Computer System updated to reflect changes
Use of new dataset commenced as planned on 1st January 2010
Reducing the delays in reporting:
Prospective data collection commenced 1st January 2010
Production of monthly reports commenced February 2010
Creating a national database:
November 2009 – all historical SSCA data submitted to ISD allowing easier
management/ analysis and reporting of stroke data. Data from 2005-2010
now held centrally at ISD
7th February 2010 – monthly data submission commenced
Changing the annual report
Unit-specific data to be published on website
Sharing of best practice

Monthly Reports - presenting data/ performance against NHS QIS standards
sent to all sites
Commenced Carotid Intervention Pilot in two sites (April – September 2010)
Evaluation and revision of Patient/ Carer Information Leaflet (Easy Access)
Published 2010 National Report - 29th June 2010 – revised to include
- Trend analysis of data from 2005-2009
- Case studies demonstrating use of data and improvements in practice
- Submissions from Managed Clinical Networks for stroke outlining plans
to improve performance and delivery of stroke care in local areas
- Submissions from partner organisations, e.g. CHSS, Stroke Association
Published first version of Public Summary 2010
Commenced development of new web based SSCA Computer System
Meetings with all Stroke MCNs to discuss performance and plans for improvement
Meetings with all Audit Coordinators
