									           ELECTRONIC THESIS AND DISSERTATION SUBMISSION

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS GIVING NOTICE OF INTENTION TO
             SUBMIT FROM 1 DECEMBER 2009 ONWARDS


1. What do I do next?
You are required to submit electronic versions of your thesis/dissertation. You will complete your
electronic submission using the University’s new institutional repository services, Manchester
eScholar. The Manchester eScholar Support Team will help you in preparing and submitting
your electronic thesis/dissertation. You MUST contact the Manchester eScholar Support Team
WITHIN 14 DAYS of handing in your Notice of Submission form.

2. What happens after I have contacted Manchester eScholar?
A member of the Manchester eScholar Support Team will arrange a convenient time and
location to meet with you. A representative from the Graduate Education Office may also attend
this session.
The purpose of the session is to ensure that you are fully prepared to submit your thesis in an
electronic form.
After the session you will be able to,
       create a Portable Document Format (PDF) version of your thesis which accurately
        represents your work and complies with all University guidelines on the presentation of
        theses
       create a plain-text metadata record that describes your submission
       understand your rights and make a clear declaration of what level of access you wish to
        give to others for your electronic submission


3. What happens when I’m ready to submit my thesis?
You must contact the Manchester eScholar Support Team at least ONE WEEK before you
intend to print and bind your thesis/dissertation. A member of the Manchester eScholar Support
Team will arrange to meet with you and guide you through the submission of your electronic
thesis/dissertation.
At the end of this session you will,
       have successfully submitted the electronic version of your thesis/dissertation
       know how to download the electronic version of your thesis/dissertation and an
        approved cover-page ready for you to print and bind
       understand what happens when a successful result has been received following
        examination
