ONLINE RESEARCH FORM HW - Energy – 20 pts
SAVE THIS WORD DOCUMENT FIRST – YOU WILL SIMPLY BE ADDING WHAT YOU FOUND TO IT
Use the Internet (google is a common search engine) to find information and pictures for each of the
Research Items listed. YOU NEED INFORMATION FROM TWO SITES and TWO PICTURES FOR EACH
RESEARCH ITEM (along with the web address they came from). When you Copy & Paste a web address it
will look like text – simply hit the Enter key right after copying and it will turn into a hyperlink.
Copy & Paste the web address and the info and the pictures – THIS IS NOT PLAGIARISM AS YOU ARE
SHOWING WHERE THE INFORMATION CAME FROM and YOU ARE NOT CLAIMING IT AS YOUR WORK.
This info will help you make the PowerPoint slides – which you will put into your own words.
RESEARCH MUST BE DONE WHEN IT IS DUE BECAUSE YOUR GROUP WILL GET TIME TO GET
ORGANIZED. IF IT IS NOT DONE, YOU ARE USELESS TO YOUR GROUP.
TOPIC: Wildlife (my animal is) DEER .
RESEARCH ITEM: What is the largest deer in North America:
1 info site
Moose, the Largest Species in the Deer Family
Moose, known as elk in the eastern hemisphere (Alces alces) are the largest deer in the world and the heaviest
wild land animals in North America after American bison. Weighing up to 1,800 lbs, bull moose can have
massive antlers, spanning well over 6 feet, and they can stand nearly 8 feet at the shoulder.
2 info site
The biggest living member of the deer family is the moose
(weighing about 800 kg); the smallest is the Andean Pudu (weighing about 10 kg).

Handwrite your name and period
here ON EACH PAGE of printouts
TOPIC: Biosphere 3 – HVAC and PV cells
** your HVAC is for just your “human areas” (housing, labs, processing areas, etc.) to move
air and control temperature – all other areas are “natural” and simply need to have air moved
around using fans. Keep in mind, your HVAC system MUST BE ELECTRIC HEAT ONLY, as
there’s no fossil fuels to use (non-renewable).
You will eventually need to calculate the volume of your HVAC controlled buildings and the
volume of the rest of your biosphere to know how much air needs to be moved around.
1. RESEARCH ITEM: what does “HVAC” stand for and what is its purpose?
2. RESEARCH ITEM: find an HVAC system (or separate heating and air conditioning units)
that would be used in a typical 2,000 square foot house (just like what you would do if you
were trying to find a system to fit your own home)
3. RESEARCH ITEM: how many Watts is used by the above HVAC system (or separate air
conditioner and heater)? For conversions: 1 ton Air Conditioner = 3,500 Watts = 12,000
BTU/hour – or if in Horsepower 1HP = 750W
4. RESEARCH ITEM: how many Watts can you get from 1m2 of photovoltaic cells per hour?
5. RESEARCH ITEM: how many cfm (cubic feet per minute) of air LARGE industrial fans
6. RESEARCH ITEM: how much electricity (Watts) those LARGE fans require per hour
