                                                                                   
Job title:               Management Accountant
Post holder:             Vacant
Department:              Finance
Location:                Head Office – Reading
Responsible to:          Deputy Director of Finance


Job purpose:             Provide regular financial information across the Association.
                         Support budgeting and financial projection processes.
                         Ensure ledger accounts are properly maintained and
                         reconciled.


Responsible for/duties:

1.      Review procedures for the production of annual budgets and advise in respect
        of their preparation.

2.      Co-ordinate the preparation of the Association’s Management Expenses and
        annual budget.

3.      Monitor the Association’s performance against approved budgets, including
        capital expenditure, through the production of monthly management accounts.

4.      Management reporting of all revenue income and expenditure.

5.      Provision of information for benchmarking and service improvement initiatives.

6.      Constantly review the Association’s accounting/administration procedures in
        order to improve financial reporting in respect of accuracy, quality and time.

7.      Periodic review and update of relevant sections of the financial procedures
        manual.

8.      Co-ordinate the production of periodic projected out-turns which are currently
        6 monthly.

9.      Allocation and apportionment of the Association’s overall management costs,
        including the update and review of basis where necessary.

10.     Oversee the reconciliation of all bank accounts.

11.     Responsible, as above, for the maintenance of all revenue control accounts.

12.     To act as a Finance IT Champion. As an IT Champion you will have an
        overview of the business processes within your area of influence and liaise
        with IT and others to implement, improve and maintain relevant IT business
        modules.

13.     Assistant in the ongoing development of the computerised financial recording
        and reporting systems.

14.     Finalise period’s ends and year end of the nominal ledger.

15.     Production of relevant schedules and notes for the year end accounts.

16.     Provide cover to the Assistant Director (Finance) in the production of quarterly
        accounts (FV3).

17.     To act as a cheque signatory and vertify/authorise CHAPS payments.

18.     Develop benchmarking in response to internal/external requests.

19.     Preparation of accruals/prepayments accounting entries for the purpose of
        monthly management reporting.

20.     To undertake such other duties of a similar level of responsibility as may from
        time to time be reasonably required.

21.     Undertake such flexible and additional hours as may be necessary, within
        reason, to facilitate the efficient fulfilment of the Association’s functions and
        services.

22.     May be required to participate in Business Continuity (BCP) activities.

23.     You are required to comply with the Association’s Equality and Diversity
        Policy and Procedures and may be required to participate in promoting them.

Competencies required:
1.      Good communication skills.

2.      Good computer skills.

3.      Good verbal and numerical reasoning skills.

4.      Ability to work without direct supervision.

5.      Able to get it right first time.

6.      Self-motivation, ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.


Qualifications required for the satisfactory performance of these duties:
At the discretion of the Association.

1.      A CCAB accounting qualification.

2.      Post qualification experience of Management Accounting.

3.      Excellent spreadsheet skills.

4.      Practical experience of budgetary control processes with a computerised
        accountancy package.

5.      Practical experience of costing.


Limitations:
1.      The Rules, Standing Orders and established policies of the Association.

2.      May not, except as authorised by specific or standing instruction, commit the
        Association contractually.

3.      May not sign Tenancy Agreements.
