USING THE INTERNET
Assignment #4
Using the Internet is essential to access information quickly and easily. The Internet is a
notable innovation for providing up-to-date information that is needed in business and in
other aspects of our daily lives.
For this assignment, you will begin by using a Web browser, such as Netscape
Communicator, Internet Explorer, America Online browser, or any other reliable
browser, visiting four employment (jobs and career) Internet sights. Two of these sites
will be required visitations, and two will be personal choices of jobs and careers within
your respective major.
Step 1: Everyone is required to search the jobs and career site identified on the
Web as Monster Board (listed below), and Career Resource Center (listed
below), and any other two locations of your choice to locate jobs within
your own major.
1. Career Resource Center http://www.careers.org
2. Career Builder http://www.careerbuilder.com
3. Job Center http://www.jobcenter.com
4. Job Track http://www.jobtrack.com (also known as Monster Track)
5. Job Web http://www.jobweb.com
6. Monster Board http://www.monster.com
7. National Jobs http://www.nationjob.com
8. Telecommuting Jobs http://www.tjobs.com (Work from home)
9. IT Jobs http://www.itjobs.com
Step 2: Use Monster Board to search any IT (Information Technology) job listing
of your choice, such as:
Software Development, Web Master / Web Developer, Application
Programming, Business Analyst, IT Auditor, Networking, Trainer,
Technical Support, Systems Programmer, Communications Technician,
PC Applications, PC Technician or any other related IT listing.

Step 3: Once you have located a technology job announcement of interest to you,
copy no more than one paragraph of the announcement (any part) to a
word processor, using copy/paste (ctrl c for Copy and ctrl V for Paste.)
Step 4: Within the word processor, at the top of the page, type and center the
Monster Board job title associated with your selected paragraph. Depress
the Enter key three times. This will force three blank lines below the
centered job title. Paste the paragraph to the document page.
Step 5: Repeat these procedures again, using Career Resource Center. Locate a
different job announcement, and copy and paste one paragraph into your
document. Leave 3 blank lines below the Monster Board section, and then
center and type this new job title, leaving 3 blank lines after the title
before pasting the paragraph into the document.
Step 6: Visit at least two other sites. The objective is to search for jobs and career
postings within your own major (i.e., Accounting, Economics, Human
Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Management, Logistics, or
Marketing. Select a job in your major from any two sites.
Step 7: On the same page, type and center the job title and web address for your
first alternative job site, leaving three blank lines after this job title and
paste a paragraph from this job announcement.
Step 8: Type and center the job title and web address for the second alternative
job site, leaving three blank lines after this job title and paste a paragraph
from this job announcement.
Step 9: Compose one completely developed paragraph (using correct wording,
grammar, and spelling) that delineates what you consider to be useful and
essential in a job/career Web site, and which of the four web sites, if any,
met your definition of usefulness.
Please be thorough in your explanation of why or why not the Web sites
you visited were useful, and which of the sites you preferred. When you
are finished, upload your word processor document to the Web Portfolio.
