CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS AND PROCEDURES
MRS. TAN--ENGLISH 2
Classroom Rules: How should I conduct myself?
1. Follow WHS rules and expectancies
2. Be on time.
The first two tardies are verbal warnings. The third tardy is a referral to your GLC. You must be in your seat (not
walking in) when the bell rings. You will receive a referral for every tardy after the third one.
3. Come to class prepared with materials and prepared to engage in learning. NO PASSES TO LOCKERS.
The first time you forget your novel, textbook, or homework in your locker, you will get a verbal warning.
The second offense and after is loss of participation points (see grading policy below)
parent notification and/or referral to your GLC if it is a continual issue.
Since I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK, if you forget your homework, you will not be able to turn it in late
even if you already did the assignment.
4. Follow instructions the first time.
5. No media devices (i.e. cell phones, ipods, etc.) 1st offense: warning, 2nd offense: device confiscated
6. NO FOOD, DRINKS, or GUM--only water is allowed.
Consequences: OK, I goofed. What happens now?
Warning
Loss of Participation Points and/or Parent contact
Referral to GLC
Student Responsibilities: How do I succeed in this class?
Listen Attentively--You will gain respect as you give it.
Raise your hand to speak / Wait to speak when others are speaking.
Be a positive part of the learning environment.

Do Your Best--Your grades matter because YOU matter.
Turn in quality work that reflects your best effort
Ask questions; don’t give excuses.
Exercise Integrity--Make it a point to do the right thing.
WHS cheating policies will be strictly enforced. This includes discussing a quiz/test with someone who has yet to take
it, copying someone else’s answers, and plagiarism (taking another’s work and passing it off as your own).
Consequences include zero points on assignment, notification to parent and GLC, and notice in academic record.
Please read and sign the policy on cheating and plagiarism.

Assignment must be completed before entering class.
NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED unless you have an excused absence.
Class cuts or truancies are not legal absences and they result in a zero for each assignment missed (even
quizzes, tests, and projects).
Make-up Work for Excused Absences
For excused absences, students have the same number of days absent to make-up work.
It is the student’s responsibility to get make-up work—BOTH classwork and homework.
Ask a buddy student for assignment(s) and directions FIRST.
Obtain needed handouts, worksheets, etc. from your period’s OUT box.
Write absent clearly on your make-up work and turn into your period’s IN box.
For tests and quizzes, arrange a time with me within one week.

Extra Credit: What can I do to help my grade?
If you diligently complete assignments, read assigned books and reading material, and study for quizzes and tests,
you should not need to do any extra credit. In fact, because I believe that the assignments we do in class are more
important and valuable than any extra credit work I offer, I do not offer much extra credit at all.
Each semester, you will have only a few opportunities to earn extra credit. You can volunteer or be randomly drawn
to help with duties around the class (worth 5 pts). Then towards the end of the semester, I offer a few options for a
written extra credit assignment (worth 15 pts). You can only do ONE assignment. I always try to include as one
option watching the school play and writing a review so check your calendars and plan to purchase your ticket.
Supplies: What do I need to bring and/or have?
Filler paper (college ruled), pens, textbook with cover or novel, and 3-ring binder must be brought daily.
80-page college ruled spiral NOTEBOOK by Wednesday, Aug. 24. (and brought to class DAILY)
Planner or assignment calendar for writing homework must be brought and filled out daily.
Art supplies should be available at home and brought to school upon request.
Access to a computer and the internet.
Notebook: What are the details for this?
You will need an 80-page college ruled spiral notebook. It will be divided into four equal sections. You must number
each page (front and back) of each section. So for each section, you should have 40 pages. Do NOT number the
first page of each section as it will be used for the table of contents.
I will provide the table of contents papers which will be in different colors for the different sections. GLUE them in.
You will need this notebook by Wed., Aug 24. You will use this notebook EVERYDAY so bring it to class daily.
Class Webpage: How do I find Ms. Tan’s webpage and what’s on the site?
You can access my class webpage directly at http://tanenglish.weebly.com. There you will see drop down menus
for each class which will include uploaded files, a class calendar, and so forth. It would be a good idea to bookmark
this webpage on your personal computer as you will visit it often, if not daily.
If you happen to forget the web address, go to the school’s website at www.walnuths.net. From the left side menu,
click TEACHERS/STAFF and scroll down to find my name. Click on my name to view my WHS page, and you
should see my webpage’s address.
Contact Info: How do I or my parents/guardians get in touch with you?
You can call me at school at 909-594-1333 ext. 34205. My school e-mail is stan@walnutvalley.k12.ca.us and my
personal e-mail is mrs.sohee.tan@gmail.com. If you need a response after school hours, please use my gmail
account as I sometimes have problems accessing my school e-mail from home.
STUDENTS ARE TO KEEP THIS PAPER IN THEIR NOTEBOOK AT ALL TIMES
To Parents/Guardians and Students:
I hope you are looking forward to a successful and exciting year as much as I am. Maintaining the class
expectations and procedures is an important part of that success. Thank you for taking the time to read over them
carefully. Please call or e-mail me if you have any questions (see above). You can also visit my webpage at
