Pediatric Nursing Practice
This course is designed to develop nursing skills in providing care to the child and his/her
families along the health and illness continuum. Clinical experiences will emphasize the well
child and the child with acute and chronic conditions. Students will have the opportunity to
integrate their concepts of basic medical and nursing science in pediatric acute and critical
1. Enhance nursing skills in assessment, diagnosis, and management of children with acute
and chronic health problems.
2. Incorporate evidence-based practice when caring for children and their families.
3. Develop an understanding of the complex interactions of the physiological, cognitive,
social, cultural, and emotional facets of child development in relation to their early, mid
and late stages of functioning.
