                             BDPA Cincinnati Chapter
                        Vice President of Member Services
                               March Status Report
Second Quarter VP Meeting, March 22, 2004

To: BDPA Cincinnati Board of Directors
From: Christopher Bomar, VP Member Services

I. Business Area Action Items (Board Vote Needed)

   1. Look into forming an education and professional development program with New
Horizons Computer Learning Center – Blue Ash, Ohio. Gary Prater, Education
Consultant has initiated contact with BDPA to offer our members a discount on
their classes and certification testing (see attached letter).
   2. Look into the official development of an educational and training program with
EBITech Center as an extension of S.I.T.E.S.

II. Business Area Expenditures (Board Vote Needed)

The center director has committed to me they will be glad to negotiate the price of the
space we use for this program. I will forward the pricing information for the EBITech
center to the Board for discussion before the end of the month.

Vice President’s Activities

   1. 3/6, 3/13, 3/20 - Participated in the HSCC at Xavier University every Saturday of
March from 9am – 2pm. Assisted the class instructors in teaching BDPA History
and provided guidance and motivation to 23 students in Phase II of the camp.

   2. 3/1 - Wrote article for March Newsletter “HSCC Phase One Overview”

   3. 3/5 – Met with Bernie Moore of ICG Communications, a national Internet
communications service provider. Bernie gave me a demo of their cutting edge
voice over IP phone technology then we discussed the possibility of ICG
becoming a corporate sponsor and a promotional discount program for BDPA
Members. A follow up call to Bernie will happen after Board decides on how we
        want to approach ICG/BDPA relationship.

   4. 3/7 – Participated in the “Train the Trainer” conference call 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm.

   5. 3/9 – Met with Karen Lipscomb to discuss the status of the Career Center
        project.

   6. 3/15 – Met with Rodney Taylor of Best Information Technology Solutions to
discuss their role in supporting a new BDPA S.I.T.E.S. program with EBITech
Center in Walnut Hills as an extension of S.I.T.E.S. (Student Information
Technology Education and Scholarship) designed for high school seniors and
others who are interested in the networking and hardware support side of IT.

This yet unnamed program could serve as a bridge for HSCC students who are
ready to enter the IT job market and those who desire to secure an entry level IT
job that may not require certifications but still provides a good opportunity to get
        in the door and grow.

We agreed that one of the first things that would have to be established is a
curriculum and who would conduct the classes. I have verbal commitments from
Rodney Taylor and David Menifee of Best Information Technology Solutions
(B.I.T.S.) that they will provide the hands-on network and hardware support
training and would help develop the curriculum. These and other BDPA-Cincy
Board-approved volunteer instructors can rotate classes and subjects as
        needed.

This program would be a win-win for everyone. Not only would BDPA be able to
help more young people get into the IT field that otherwise may not have had the
opportunity, but EBITech gets a new, well established “tenant” ( the BDPA
S.I.T.E.S. Program) plus they get to publicize their involvement in a significant
community enrichment program that showcases the availability of high-
technology training at a very low cost, right in the Empowerment Zone. The
volunteer instructors get to promote their company name and can write off the
value of their time and other resources as a charitable contribution (of course)
and last but not least, proactive local companies will have a good resource
through which to hire qualified Black candidates for entry-level IT jobs.

   7. 3/16 – Met with Maria Collins of the E-Business and Information Technology
Center (EBiTech) for a tour and to discuss how our organizations can work
together to provide IT training to minority high school seniors and entrepreneurs
        in the Empowerment Zone.

   8. 3/17 - Lunch meeting with Gary Prater, Education Consultant for New Horizons
Computer Learning Center – Blue Ash, Ohio to discuss forming a local education
and professional development program with New Horizons Computer Learning
Center – Blue Ash, Ohio. Mr. Prater has initiated contact with BDPA to offer our
members a discount on their classes and certification testing (see attached
letter). My thoughts after the meeting are that I like the proposal so far. I will do
some research with other chapters (Charlotte, NC and Wash, D.C.) who have
used NHCLC for a discount training program and find out their experiences, likes
      and dislikes.

   9. 3/18 – Attended monthly meeting and met with the presenter, Gerald Smith,
afterward to talk more in-depth about his topic of project management.

Communication Director’s Activities

No report for March from Kenya Thomas. So far the only activity I can report for Kenya
this year has been one email she sent out on 3/15 to the BDPAC Yahoo Group to
solicit articles for the newsletter. Frank and I will continue to monitor and evaluate
Kenya’s effectiveness in the role as Communication Director as defined by the most
recent revision of the BOD Handbook (3.19.04).

Deborah Lee continues to lead in the development of our newsletter and does a fine job
every month.
