                                 March 30, 2007

P&G PET CARE POSITION STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO TODAY’S
ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE FOOD & DRUG ADMINISTATION

 There is no melamine or wheat gluten in any Iams or Eukanuba dry pet foods on
      store shelves.

 Iams and Eukanuba dry pet foods do not contain wheat gluten and are made in
P&G Pet Care plants (not Menu Foods). Pet owners should know that they may
feel safe and confident in feeding all Iams and Eukanuba dry foods, which are not
manufactured by Menu Foods and are not part of this recall.

 Consumers should feel secure in feeding Iams and Eukanuba products. Only a
small portion of our products were affected by the Menu Foods recall, and these
products have already been removed from retail store shelves in the U.S. and
      Canada.

 P&G Pet Care immediately suspended production of all wet pet foods at the
affected Menu Foods Emporia plant on March 14, 2007.

 P&G Pet Care has shared all of its data and continues to cooperate fully with the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration in this investigation.

 We have provided consumers and veterinarians the information they need to
      address their questions and concerns.

 A special task force of veterinary health professionals recently reviewed P&G Pet
Care’s voluntary participation in the Menu Foods recall and our quality assurance
procedures. The consensus statement from this special task force was as follows:

“The independent task force of veterinary health professionals commends P&G
Pet Care highly for its rapid voluntary participation in the Menu Foods wet pet
food recall and sharing of information with regulatory authorities, veterinarians,
and consumers on the occurrence of an unusual renal failure syndrome in pets.
Veterinarians and pet owners should feel safe recommending and feeding Iams
and Eukanuba dry foods and wet food products not involved in this recall.”
