									Kirker expands its Italian Lakes
programme for 2012

Lake Lugano features for the first time alongside new properties
on Lakes Garda & Maggiore
Specialist tour operator for discerning travellers, Kirker Holidays continues its long-standing love affair with Italy
in its latest dedicated brochure. Covering departures until December 2012, the new Italy brochure reaffirms
Kirker’s expertise in arranging tailor-made itineraries to this eternally-popular country.

Whether it’s a classic city break, a lake, coast or countryside escape, or a multi-centre trip combining all
of these elements, allow Kirker to share its enthusiasm for Italy. From special occasions that require the very
best of everything to more budget-conscious itineraries where free nights and added value are of particular
appeal, Kirker brings over 25 years of excellence in arranging Italian holidays to give its clients a true taste of La
Dolce Vita.

Choose from a tempting array of properties ranging from characterful three-star hotels to five-star deluxe
indulgence. Featured for the first time in the 2012 brochure are several new options in the Italian Lakes:

 Though technically in Switzerland, the Italian-speaking city of Lugano’s location – nestled neatly
between Lakes Como and Maggiore – makes it perfect for a multi-centre stay. As well as a wonderful
lakeside setting, Lugano offers pretty parks, an historic traffic-free centre, and a culture and cuisine that
effortlessly combine Swiss sophistication and Mediterranean flair.
Three nights at the three-star superior International au Lac hotel from £798 pp*.

 Also on the Swiss side of the border yet inextricably associated with the Italian Lakes, Ascona’s
sophisticated and relaxed ambience melds the very best qualities of both countries. One of the most
appealing towns on Lake Maggiore, it also benefits from great ferry links to Stresa – bringing travel to the
Italian towns of the south within easy reach.
Three nights at the five-star deluxe Eden Roc hotel from £948 pp*.

 Just 45 minutes from Verona on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, the attractive town of Torri del
Benaco offers a quieter alternative to some of the busier resorts further south. Famous for its Bronze
Age rock carvings, visitors to Torri can also enjoy pottering in the cobbled streets of its historic old town
and around the small harbour, dotted with colourful fishing boats.
Three nights at the three-star Hotel Gardesana from £529 pp*.

 Sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts need look no further than Malcesine for their next Italian holiday,
where conditions are perfect for either sport. Set on the north-east shore of Lake Garda against a
backdrop of dramatic mountain scenery, there’s also a Venetian fortress to explore and a rotating cable
car taking visitors up to the panoramic peak of Mount Baldo for spectacular sightseeing.
Three nights at the four-star superior Bellevue San Lorenzo from £628 pp*.

 An hour’s drive from Sirmione on the eastern shore lies Punta San Vigilio, one of Lake Garda’s most
picturesque villages and, in Kirker’s opinion, the most romantic setting on the lake.
Three nights at the four-star superior Locanda San Vigilio from £898 pp*.

 Once the capital of Mussolini’s short-lived Italian Social Republic (from 1943 to 1945), the small harbour
town of Salo is now a sophisticated Lake Garda resort with fashionable boutiques and a lakeside
promenade lined with cafés and restaurants.
Three nights at the four-star superior Hotel Bellerive from £598 pp*.
Kirker’s popular Venice programme also expands in 2012, adding another three-star property in the shape of
Casa Santa Maria Formosa (three nights from £598 pp*). Tucked away from the tourist hordes and decorated
in traditional Venetian style, Kirker clients are guaranteed a canal-view room here. All Kirker short breaks to the
city include a guaranteed entrance ticket to the Doge’s Palace. Ideal for repeat visitors to Venice, Kirker now
also offers clients the alternative of having complimentary tickets to either the Peggy Guggenheim
Museum or Accademia Gallery for those who have already ‘done the Doge’s’.

Florence first-timers and anyone with a love of fine art will appreciate the timed entrance ticket to the Uffizi
Gallery that accompanies all Kirker short breaks to the Renaissance city. Choose from a wide range of hotels
that now includes two further five-star deluxe properties – Villa La Massa, sister hotel of Lake Como’s
renowned Villa d’Este (three nights from £839 pp*) and the Grand Hotel Villa Cora, an elegant Florentine
bolthole set in its own grounds behind the Boboli Gardens (three nights from £698 pp*).

Heading to the ‘heel’ of Italy? Kirker has added the four-star deluxe Villa San Martino to its programme in
central Puglia (three nights from £698 pp) while sun-seekers could do worse than settle on Sorrento. Boasting
superb views across the Bay of Naples, the five-star deluxe Grand Hotel Cocumella (three nights from £798
pp*) joins Kirker’s Amalfi Coast selection for 2012 as does Villa Cimbrone, a five-star deluxe property perched
on Ravello’s highest point and surrounded by one of Italy’s most famous gardens (three nights from £998 pp*).

If island life appeals for your next Mediterranean escape, Kirker also has new properties in Sardinia and Sicily.
Set in the heart of the Costa Smeralda’s famous Porto Cervo, a stay at the five-star Hotel Cervo in Sardinia
promises a choice of five restaurants, the use of a private sandy beach and access to the Cervo Tennis Club
(prices on request). Offering a unique take on the Italian holiday experience, Sicily remains as popular as ever
with discerning travellers and Kirker is delighted to be welcoming back the four-star deluxe Villa Athena in
Agrigento to its 2012 programme – recently re-opened following extensive refurbishment (three nights from
£648 pp*).

As well as an array of new properties and old favourites from which to create the perfect Italian itinerary, clients
can also call upon the expertise of the Kirker Concierge to make their experience even more special. As well
as being an invaluable source of insider information about each destination, the Concierge can book opera or
theatre tickets, make restaurant reservations, arrange a city tour with an English-speaking guide, set up a
private Amalfi Coast excursion, and much more.

*Prices shown are based on two sharing and include flights from London (regional departures on request),
private transfers or car hire (according to destination), three nights’ accommodation with breakfast, Kirker’s
guide notes to restaurants/sightseeing in the major towns and cities, and the services of the Kirker Concierge to
assist with booking tickets, making restaurant reservations and arranging private guided tours, etc.
