         What are sponges made of?

Don’t laugh at me, but this question has been plaguing me for some time now. I figured since I am dying with curiosity, other people must be
too…..right? You all are curious, right? (silence……crickets chirping)

Ok, maybe it’s just me, but sponges are bizarre and I’ve always wondered how they make those darn things. So, I found out there are three different
         types of sponges:

Cellulose Sponges – a mixture of regenerated wood pulp and cotton that are mixed together, treated with chemicals, heated and extruded into shape.

Melamine Sponges – made from carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen.

Animal Sponges – made from God.

Sheets of cellulose fiber are soaked in chemicals to render them pliable and soft. The sheets, hemp fiber and sodium sulphate crystals are then placed in
large rotating containers to blend the ingredients.

When the mixture is thoroughly mixed in the rotating vats, it is poured into a mold and heated. The heat melts the sodium sulphate crystals, which flow
to the bottom, where the liquid is removed. The pores or gaps left from the melted crystals form the familiar structure we see in finished sponges.

The size of the crystals determines the size of the pores and the eventual use of the sponge.

         This gives you…

To make this spiritual and philosophical, what are you absorbing? We are all like sponges in that we take in and absorb the environment we are in. What
types of things are you soaking up, whether intentional or unintentional? The environment we place ourselves in becomes a part of us whether we like it
         or not.
