                       SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME
  •Design and study of a new hollow superconducting cable
  based on multifilament key-stoned SC wires.


  •Design and construction of a model dipole magnet for
  SIS100 (B=2 T, dB/dt =4 T/s, f =1 Hz) with a single-layer SC
  coil, cooled with forced two-phase helium flow.


  •Fabrication and test of the new hollow superconducting
  cable aimed at operating current of 25-30 kA at B=4-6 T.

                         Main results in 2004:
  •The new cable and single-layer dipole coil were
  produced and tested at LHE.
  • The   cable operating current of 13 kA at B=2.2 T,
  dB/dt=4 T/s and f=1 Hz was obtained.


  Construction and experimental tests of a superferric
   model dipole magnet with a single-layer coil
  were performed.

           New design: (KWIT)
           Keystoned Wires Inside a Tube

                                          The wires fix themselves (arc principle) and form a
                                           cooling channel with small hydraulic resistance.
                                         The direct contact of two-phase helium flow with the
                                          wires provides the highest cryogenic stability any
                                                             time interval.

                       EXPECTED RESULTS in 2005:

 •Experimental tests and further investigation of a superferric
 SISD100 model dipole magnet with a single-layer coil at
 operating current higher 12 kA and pulse repetition rate 1 Hz.
 • Upgrade of the magnet power supply and current leads of
 the test bench. Improvement of the new cable production
 technology.
 •Technical design of hollow fast-ramped superconducting
 cable, operating at 25 kA.

                             SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME:
              R&D dealing with the problems of fast cycling superconducting
                            accelerator technology, including:
• optimization of the SIS 100 lattice;
•necessary beam diagnostic and orbit correction equipment;
• fast and slow beam extraction from SIS 100, including experimental
 investigation of beam extraction efficiency from SIS 18 and Nuclotron;
• SIS100 beam pipe and high vacuum system design;
• analysis of beam dynamics, different loss scenarios and optimization of
 radiation protection of the accelerator elements;
• analysis of RF power station design;
• optimization of the accelerator control and monitoring system;
• superconducting beam transfer lines.

 • The      SIS100      lattice      optimization,        including       analysis       of   different
 approaches          to the beam slow and fast extraction from SIS100, beam
 transfer from SIS100 to SIS300 and emergency beam dump from SIS100,
 • Calculations of different options for chromaticity correction and SIS100
 dynamic aperture,
 • Simulation of U(29+) collimation at injection and acceleration processes,
 •Conceptual design and simulation of the SIS100 closed orbit correction.
 • Design specification for quadrupoles, multipole correctors and beam
 diagnostic tools in superconducting SIS100 ring, based on optimized SIS100
 lattice,
