Professional ethics of the information technology field
Professional ethics are the norms, the terms and conditions to be met by a group of
people called professionals. Then who called it professional? The person who holds a
particular profession is called a professional. Furthermore Oemar Seno Adji said that the
regulations concerning the profession in general regulate the fundamental rights and have
the rules of behavior or conduct in carrying out his profession that in many cases are
channeled through the code of ethics.
While the definition of a profession is a moral community (moral community) who share
our goals and shared values. They form a united profession because of the same
educational background and together have expertise that are closed to others.
A Code of Professional Ethics of Information Technology (IT)
In the sphere of IT, professional code of ethics includes the scientific study of the
principles or norms in terms of the relationship between the IT professional or developer
with clients, the professionals themselves, including professional organizations and
professional organizations with the government. One form of a professional relationship
with the client (user services) for the creation of an application program.
A professional can not make the program at will, there are several things to consider as to
what he was nantinyadigunakan by a client program or user; iadapat ensure the safety
(security) system application program of work of those who can disrupt the system works
(eg: hacker , crackers, etc.).
As a professional, we have a responsibility to promote the ethical use of information
technology in the workplace. We have a managerial responsibility. We must accept the
ethical responsibility along with the work activity. This includes carrying out our role
very well as an important human resources in business systems within the organization.
As a manager or business professional, will be our responsibility to make decisions about
business activities and use of information technology, which may have an ethical
dimension that must be considered.
The number of applications and increased use of IT has given rise to various ethical
issues, which can be categorized into four types:
A. The issue of privacy: the privacy of others is often misused to monitor e-mail, check
other people's computers, monitors work behavior (hidden camera). Collection, storage,
and dissemination of information about various individuals / customers and sell them to
other parties for commercial purposes. Information privacy is the right to determine
when, and to what extent information about oneself can be communicated to other
parties. This right applies to individuals, groups and institutions.
2. The issue of accuracy: authentication, truth and accuracy of the information collected
and processed. Who is responsible for many errors in the information and what
compensation should be given to the injured party?
3. The issue of property: ownership and value of information (intellectual property).
Intellectual property rights are most commonly associated with IT is the software.
Reproduction / software piracy is copyright infringement and is a big problem for the
vendor, including intellectual property such as music and movies.
4. Accessibility issues: the right to access to information and payment of fees to access
them. It is also about security issues and information systems.
Information technology has great influence in human life. Because IT is like a double-
edged sword, legal and illegal, good and bad, then inevitably related to ethics. It is
important to know that it is unethical is not necessarily illegal. Thus, in most situations, a
person or organization who are faced with ethical decisions do not consider whether
unlawful or not.
Code of ethics in information technology in Indonesia does not yet exist (written).
However, we can apply the code of ethics created by the IEEE. IEEE has made such a
code of ethics for its members, as follows:
A. To accept responsibility in making decisions consistent with the safety, health and
welfare of the public, and to disclose promptly factors That Might endanger the public or
the environment
This means that each member is responsible in making decisions consistent with the
safety, health and welfare, and immediately reveals the factors that might endanger the
public or the environment.
2. To avoid real or perceived conflicts of interest Whenever possible, and to disclose
them to affected parties when They do exist
The point is that you should avoid any conflict of interest and straighten those who have
been affected by the conflict.
3. To be honest and realistic in stating claims or estimates based on the data available
Still remember the 2009 election yesterday? How long the Commission to process the
results of the vote count. Person responsible for IT matters before the Commission stating
that their system has been tested for reliability and recapitulation of votes will go
smoothly. In fact?
4. To reject bribery in all its forms
Something very rare in Indonesia, not only in political field alone, in the field of
information technology can do so little can be said
5. To improv the understanding of technology, its Appropriate application, and potential
Consequences
Each time increase the understanding of technology, its appropriate application, and
potential consequences.

If SU is a member of the IEEE, it is said he has clearly violated the code of ethics
organization.
