1 Introduction
1.1 What is this Report About?

        The following are definitions of military expenditure:

                   Capital expenditure (capex) covers research and development (R&D), procurement, maintenance,
                    transportation, and the storage of weaponry and other equipments. It also includes expenditure on
                    aircraft and aero engines, heavy and medium vehicles, naval equipment, and the purchase of land,
                    construction, plants and machinery.

        The following are definitions of armored vehicle categories:

                  Main Battle Tanks (MBT) refers to tracked heavy combat vehicles used to perform direct fire
                   support roles, with a main tank gun and weight of more than 45 tons. They also include engineering,
                   recovery, bridge layer and obstacle breacher variants based on a main battle tank chassis.
                  Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) is an armored vehicle designed to carry troops to and from the
                   battlefield. It has limited firepower options and a combat weight in the range of 15 to 35 tons. APC
                   comprises of 8x8, 6x6, and 4x4 wheeled vehicles in different roles and variants.
                  Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) are defined as tracked medium-weight combat vehicles of 30 to
                   45 tons, with firepower provided by a medium caliber gun. These vehicles are used to carry infantry
                   into the battlefield and provide fire support. Apart from armored infantry fighting vehicles, IFV also
                   include reconnaissance and fire support variants.
                  Light Multirole Vehicles (LMV) is a family of light armored 4x4 vehicles weighing between five and
                   12 tons. They are used in liaison, patrol, utility, command and reconnaissance roles.
                  Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) is a family of armored vehicles capable of providing
                   increased crew protection and vehicle survivability to counter battlefield threats such as improvised
                   explosive devices (IEDs), mines and small arms. These counter IED vehicles include, but are not
                   limited to, the US MRAP family
