participants, parent(s)/carer(s), one another and the venue’s staff and premises with friendliness, care and
courtesy.
3.2 All Pull the Other staff use positive strategies for handling any inconsiderate behaviour, by finding ways that
are appropriate for the participant’s age group. Such solutions might include, for example, acknowledgement of
feelings, explanations as to what was not acceptable and supporting participant’s to gain control of their feelings so
they can conduct a more appropriate response.

                                                       PULL THE OTHER THEATRELAB
                                                           TERMS AND CONDITIONS
                                                                         PAGE 2/3

3.3 We support each participant in developing a sense of belonging in the TheatreLab as a ‘company member’ so
that they feel valued and welcome.
3.4 We do not use behavioural techniques intended to single out and humiliate individual participants. This must
not be confused with the nature of any drama workshop where by individual performance is encouraged. On
occasion, each participant will be asked and encouraged to perform a drama exercise or task individually in front
of TheatreLab peers and staff.
3.5 Any physical and verbal abusive behaviour towards Pull the Other’s staff, participants and the venue’s staff and
premises is not tolerated.
3.6 Pull the Other operates a three-strike expulsion system. This is measured at Pull the Other’s staff’s
discretion. The three strike system is conducted as follows; firstly an immediate verbal warning to the participant
and to the participant’s parent/carer, secondly an immediate verbal and written warning by email, and finally an
immediate verbal and emailed expulsion. All parent(s)/carer(s) must agree that should their child not adhere to
this system they will be asked to leave the TheatreLab.
3.7 In cases of extreme initial abusive behaviour by a participant, for example, physical abuse or serious verbal
abuse, Pull the Other reserves the right to immediately expel that participant with out initiating the three-strike
system.
3.8 Any decision to expel a participant will be taken by both artistic directors, Helen Broughton and Rachel
Nussbaum and only after the participant has been given a reasonable opportunity to state his or her case.
3.9 In the case of any participant being asked to leave, no fees or deposits will be refunded.
4 Waiting List
4.1 Pull the Other operates a waiting list system on a first come first serve basis.
4.2 All fees are due for payment within five working days after Pull the Other has confirmed via email the
participant’s place. If payments are not received within this time, Pull the Other will transfer the participant onto
the waiting list until payment is received. Pull the Other reserves the right to exclude any student from the
TheatreLab who has not given payment by registration on the first day of TheatreLab.
5 Rules and Regulations

all times when in session and under Pull the Other’s care.
5.2 The nature of Pull the Other TheatreLabs and any drama workshop is that they involve elements of physical
activity. Pull the Other facilitators will conduct physical exercises in a safe manner making sure all participants

when asked to conduct physical activities such as walking, running, crawling and physical exercises involving other
participants in contact games and exercises.

items such as indoor trainers or jazz shoes. Footwear such as high heels, sandals/flip-flops or bare feet are

or upper thigh/bottom are unacceptable. Participants with longer than shoulder length hair should tie their hair
back out of the face.
5.4 Pull the Other staff will ensure that participants are regularly hydrated. Each participant should bring enough
water with them for the each session and a snack for the mid session break.
5.5 There will be mid session break for 15 minutes where participants will be able to toilet break and snack.

Other will not be responsible for the loss, theft or damage of any participants personal property. Those involved
do so at their own discretion.
5.9 Pull the Other may from time to time introduce rules and regulations for the better running of the
TheatreLabs. All students enrolled on a TheatreLab shall be expected to adhere strictly to any and all such
regulations.

                                                                                                                 6

                                                        PULL THE OTHER THEATRELAB
                                                            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
                                                                          PAGE 3/3

5.10 In the event that Pull the Other considers that a participant is in breach of these terms and conditions or any
regulation issued during the TheatreLab by Pull the Other, or if the behaviour of any participant is disruptive or
likely to bring Pull the Other into disrepute, Pull the Other reserves the right to exclude this participant.
6 Complaints Procedure stages 1-5
6.1 Stage 1 A parent/carer who has a concern regarding their child in a TheatreLab should first of all talk this
over with the TheatreLab facilitator(s) involved, who will take appropriate and prompt action where necessary.
Most concerns can be resolved amicably at this stage.
6.2 Stage 2 If this does not have a satisfactory outcome, or if the problem continues or recurs, concerns or
complaints should be placed in writing to the TheatreLab facilitator(s) and Pull the Other’s artistic directors. All
complaints made in writing from parents/carers have to be investigated by Pull the Other’s artistic directors. The
TheatreLab staff concerned may be asked to write a statement explaining the exact situation. When the
investigation is completed, the staff involved and artistic director(s) will meet with the parents/carers to discuss
the outcome. This will happen within 28 days of the complaint being made. When the complaint is resolved at this
stage, a summary will be kept in the Provider Complaints Record (see section 5.6).
6.3 Stage 3 If the matter is still not resolved to the parent’s/carer’s satisfaction, he or she should request a
meeting with the involved staff and Pull the Other artistic director(s). The parent should have a friend or partner
present if required and the staff should have the support of the artistic director(s). An agreed written record of
the discussion is made as well as any decision or action to take as a result. All of the parties present at the meeting
sign the record and receive a copy of it. The signed record signifies that stage 5.3 of the procedure ahs concluded.
If the complaint is resolved at this stage, the summery points are logged in the Provider Complaints Record.
6.4 Stage 4 An external mediator is invited to help settle the complaint. This person should be acceptable to
both parties, listen to both sides and offer advice. A mediator has no legal powers but can help to define the
problem, review the action so far and suggest further ways in which it might be resolved.
5.5 Stage 5 When the mediator has concluded his/her investigations, a final meeting between the parents/carers,
the Pull the Other staff and artistic directors is held. The purpose for the meeting is to reach a decision on the
action to be taken to deal with the complaint. The mediator’s advice is used to reach this conclusion. The
mediator is present at the meeting if all parties think this will help a decision to be reached. A record of this
meeting, including the decision of action to be taken, is made. Everyone present at the meeting signs the record
and receives a copy of it. This signed record signifies that the procedure has concluded.
6.6 A record of complaints against Pull the Other and/or any TheatreLab participant and/or the staff working for
Pull the Other is kept for a minimum period of 10 years from the date of the original complaint. This record
includes the date of the complaint, the subject to which the complaint relates, the circumstances of the complaint
and how the complaint was managed. The outcome of all complaints is recorded in the Provider of Complaints
Record, available for parents/carers and government bodies on request. Pull the Other believes complaints are
made constructively and can be sorted out at an early stage. We also believe that it is in the best interests of Pull
the Other, parents/carers and participants that complaints should be taken seriously and dealt with fairly and in a
way that respects confidentiality.
