DEPARTS: July 8, 2012
Day 1 - Our Newport – Block Island Tour begins this morning when we board our deluxe motor coach and
motor east through Pennsylvania, New York, and into Connecticut. We’ll check into the Comfort Inn Mystic,
Connecticut. Dinner is on your own tonight at a local restaurant tonight.
Day 2 - After a hearty continental breakfast (included), we’ll depart to Newport, Rhode Island and enjoy a
narrated cruise of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. See lighthouses, islands and historic sites, and cruise
past the spectacular Tall Ships anchored in the Bay! We’ll learn about each Tall Ship and her country of origin.
We’ll have free time for lunch and shopping in downtown Newport. Enjoy the many shops, restaurants and
galleries along the busy harbor! This afternoon, we’ll meet our local guide for a driving tour of Newport, and
tour Newport’s two famous scenic routes; Bellevue Avenue lined with magnificent "summer cottages" built
during the Gilded Age by summer residents the Astors, the Vanderbilts and other scions of industry and
commerce, and Ten Mile Ocean Drive where you can view magnificent ocean estates and enjoy un-paralleled
ocean views! We’ll enjoy a self guided audio tour of the Breakers, and then dinner (included) at a local
restaurant in Newport.
Day 3 - After a hearty continental breakfast (included) at the hotel, we’re off to the Mystic Aquarium and
Institute for Exploration. Exhibit’s include: Beluga whales, shark tank, penguin habitat, sea lion shows in the
Marine Theater, and the “Challenge of the Deep”, the world’s only exhibition on Dr. Robert Ballard’s deep-sea
explorations, including technology that will allow you to virtually experience ocean exploration as it happens!
The Aquarium has both indoor and outdoor exhibits and is self-guided. Helpful and knowledgeable interpreters
will provide information about the animals and exhibits during your visit. Enjoy “A Slice of Heaven” (included)
in downtown Mystic at the shop where the hit movie “Mystic Pizza (featuring Julia Roberts), was filmed!
Later, we’ll meet our local guide and depart for a tour of the seacoast of Connecticut. We’ll stop at Fort
Griswold Battlefield State Park where American traitor Benedict Arnold led the British forces against his
countrymen; drive through the United States Coast Guard Academy; stop at Harkness Memorial State Park for
panoramic views of Long Island Sound! Dinner is on your own and the evening is at leisure.
Day 4 – After a hearty continental breakfast (included), we’ll enjoy a ride through scenic coastal Rhode Island
to Point Judith. We’ll board the ferry and sail to Block Island, “the Bermuda of the north,” noted for great
beaches, wildflowers, and miles of stonewalls and rolling terrain. We’ll enjoy a narrated driving tour on an
island bus, highlights include Victorian Old Harbor, the cliffs known as Mohegan Bluffs, and Rodman’s Hollow
a glacial ravine that is below sea level. Lunch (included) today is at the Grand National Hotel. This afternoon

the many shops and restaurants in the charming Victorian town. Later, we’ll have free time to shop and explore
the town. This evening we’ll return to our hotel where dinner will be (included).
Day 5 - After a hearty continental breakfast (included) at the hotel we’re off to Mystic Seaport, the nation’s
largest maritime museum and the recreation of a 19th century seafaring village. We’ll have time to have lunch
on our own in Mystic Seaport. This afternoon we’ll depart for home with fond memories of Newport and Block
Island, “the Bermuda of the North.”
