Merit Badges – Stephanie Ashby
Pre-Cody merit badge work will be held 5/14 and 5/21 with pre-work sign-ups tonight.
We have found it is easier if scout do pre-work prior to arriving at camp.
See campcody.org for merit badges and assigned pre-work.
For rifle shooting, they might be a requirement in which the scout must take and pass a written exam before leaving for
camp. Will check into the requirements.
Cody counselors will sign off on pre-work. The pre-Cody counselors will guide the scouts and won’t handle the blue
Cody Pioneers (first years) will work with Mr. Hagar on merit badge nights.
Older boys will be assisting these boys on scout nights.
The scouts will be able to visit the pre-Cody classes to discuss requirements with counselor.
Fry’s Fundraiser – Stephanie Ashby
An e-mail was sent about the fundraiser being held 4/22 at Fry’s in Sacramento in celebration of the opening of the
Roseville store. We sell Hot Dogs.
May fundraiser might still happen because the April event is held for a different celebration. At this point, it hasn’t been
determined if the May event will be held.
Tonight we need to (1) complete preparing for volunteers and donated items for April date and (2) vote on whether we
should participate in May event.
Adults are needed to set-up because our scouts will be at Camporee. An assistant scoutmaster is willing to take a group
of boys from Camporee to hotdog sale, if interested.
The event is from 8 am – 4pm. We will set up, cook, and clean up.
During the Fry’s fundraiser we sell 3000 hot dogs to equal about $750. The remaining is funds are received through
donations. We usually average about $1,200.
Fry’s can not commit to a date in May, which is usually held on a Saturday. Do we wish to participate in May’s hot dog
o Encourage participation in May because the event may be difficult for another group to handle successfully.
o Pack 447 may be interested in taking May event if we don’t do it.
o The Fry’s event is Troop 1’s biggest fund-raiser of year.
o Because of the busy calendar, parents must commit to helping at this event. Getting volunteers has not been an
issue in past. Pipeworks is May 12, May 5-6 Angel Island outing has been cancelled. May 13 is Mother’s Day.
2 weekends for NYLT.
o A motion was made to include Pack 447 on one or two of the weekends and discussed.
o Gerry would like scouts to be heavily involved in fundraiser.
The April volunteer list and list of items needed was circulated.
After vote, Pack 447 will be included in April and May Fry’s event. The proceeds will be distributed based on number of
hours per group worked.
Camp Cody – Ed Cargile
Camp Cody Dates to Remember handout was distributed.
At May parent’s meeting, the applications with fees will be due $175 for scouts, $90 for adults. Medical forms are due at
June parents meeting. Troop 1 can subsidize fees for those who can’t pay. Please see scoutmaster, Ed Cargile or
Committee Chair. Troop 1’s camp costs are much lower as compared to traditional scouting camps.
Medical forms are due at June parent’s meeting. Class 1 is updated annually, Class 2 is updated every 3 years and Class
3 is for adults only. Class 1 is signed by parents. Class 2 by doctor.
The Junior Officer’s will be decided in May.
The detail to the pioneer outing (first year scouts) hasn’t been finalized yet, but will be held June 23-24 at Goethe Park.
Exact times not decided. Other troops who participate in Camp Cody are welcomed to come to Pioneer outing.
Quartermaster/Assistant Scoutmaster - Mr. Hagar
He participated in crossing over 3 webelos from Pack 49 in West Sac. Next year 16 scouts will come from this pack.
Troop equipment maintenance is being done tonight. Cleaned tents, patrol boxes and updating and replacing equipment.
Camporee is 4/19 – 4/21 at Rancho Seco.
We will probably need a 5th patrol box. The cost is about $300. There are tents that need to be replaced. He’ll spend
about $600 – $700 on these items.
Advancements for new parents – Trail to 1st Class will begin in May. The goal is to get the incoming scouts to First Class
in one year. This is a BSA’s policy and goal. Call or talk to Mr. Hagar if you have any questions about your younger
The Iron Chef competition (Big Basin outing), organized by Mr. Hagar, was an awesome event. The Big Basin outing
was summed up by a poem read by Mr. Cann at final circle.
There is one scout opening for Philmont within Troop 161 and Troop 1. Philmont is the national scout camp in New
Mexico. It is held the end of June through the 1st 2 weeks in July. Rank requirement in First Class and 14 years old.
