CASA Glynn Inc.
Message from the Director
A fun event this past week was selecting the art work for our Kids for CASA Christmas Card
Contest. A series of twelve cards will be produced by the students at the Golden Isles Career Academy
and will be sold in the fall. All of the art work was done by Glynn County students. Thank you to Lynda
Dalton Gallagher, Lynda Tye, Ella Cart and Louise Hooper for being on the committee.
CASA Lori Carr and board member Elizabeth Sorrells are working diligently on the Jingle Bell Run
for CASA Kids which will be held on Jekyll Island the morning of December 11. We will be sending out
more information on this as it is available.
Another date to save is Sunday, November 14, 2010. CASA Glynn will have its second Cowpokes
and Cocktails event at the St. Simons Island Casino, both for fun and fundraising! Thank you to board
member Merilea Creighton for taking the lead on organizing the event and committees. Co-chairs are
Ginny Corwin and Leigh Anne Stone.
Our always generous Board provided a reception here at the office for the 10 new CASA graduates
and their friends and families on May 11th. The wonderful advocates continue to provide insightful,
thorough and useful reports for the many children that we serve. Thank you for your work and dedication.
Look for CASA Glynn to have a feature article in the July or August issue of Paisley.
Have you met Brooke Baxter? Brooke was sworn in as a CASA with the last class, and is
interning at CASA through July. She recently graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor
of Science in Child and Family Development. Brooke has always had a passion for helping children and is
“excited about being able to work with CASA Glynn and be a voice for children.” Ms. Baxter is a member of
St. Simons Presbyterian Church where she helps with the children’s programs. She has also volunteered
with the Make-A-Wish foundation and Taste of Glynn for Amity House. Brooke lives on St. Simons and is
the daughter of Mel and Lee Baxter. We are thrilled to have her insights and expertise.
The CASA Glynn Annual Meeting will be held June 15, 8:30 A.M. at the St. Simons Island Casino.
Thank you for all you do. Ellen Mayoue Baker, Executive Director

information with your Sunday School class, your Book Club, your Red Hat Society, and anyone else who will listen to
Keep up your good work with those monthly reports. We understand that it is just one more form to fill out, but each
time you do so helps us to meet our GA and National CASA standards. If you failed to submit your report this month,
Brooke Baxter, our intern, will be calling to remind you. Don't forget to put the date you visited with your child. If your
child resides out of county, list the date you spoke with your child/child's caregiver. Thanks for all the good work you
Meet Our Newest CASAs
Front Row Brooke Baxter, Amy Bramlett, Rebecca Dixon, Donna Walker, Scott Runkle
Back Row: Niki Anderson, Buffy Dixon, Susan Gwozdz, Louise Hooper, Judge Rountree
Nichole Anderson is the Associate Director of Urban Ministries at The Gathering Place. Niki’s Interests
include reading, working out, and working with youth. In working with youth Niki has seen the positive
impact that CASA has had on children in Glynn County and she wants to be a part of it.
Brooke Baxter graduated this May with a degree in child and family development from Georgia Southern.
Her interests include working with children, biking, and going to the beach. Brooke will not only be a CASA
but will be interning with CASA Glynn this summer.
Amy Bramlett is a wife and mother and is currently a realtor with Signature Properties. She previously
served as the Director of Admissions at Morningstar Youth Estate for three years. Amy misses her work
with children and feels she can make a difference in their lives.
Rebecca Dixon has been a stay at home mom for 15 years and feels like it is her time to do something
different. She has a desire to help other children by volunteering her time. She enjoys making hair bows and
Cindy Gilbert comes to CASA from the Atlanta area. She is a retired school counselor, the mother of three
children and an excellent tennis player. Cindy made a career of advocating for children by working
individually with them and their families. Now in her retirement, she continues to make a positive difference
by becoming a CASA volunteer.
Susan Gwozdz is an IT program manager with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service at FLETC. She is
married, the mother of one, a very proud grandmother, and mama to two dogs. Susan says that she has the
ability to step back and assess situations from a neutral viewpoint. That skill, along with her ability to listen
and her compassion, make her a perfect match for the CASA program.
Louise Hooper is the Executive Assistant at CASA Glynn. Louise has a BFA in drawing and painting. She
has already accepted her first CASA case and is busy gathering information for it. She is the mother of two,
grandmother to Zoey, and has the desire to see all children in a safe and permanent place.
Mary Merrow is a part-time resident of Glynn County. She lives in Massachusetts for six months and here
for six months. She has a degree in education and is a consultant for Merrow Sewing Machine Company.
Mary is also an EMT. She is married and has raised three children, and chose CASA because she “wants
to help children have a better chance to succeed in life.”
Scott Runkle has worked in regional sales with a major food manufacturing company and has recently
renewed his teaching certificate. He taught school earlier years ago and now has come full circle hoping to
continue in a teaching career. Scott is married, the father of two children, and says he came to CASA “to
impact a child’s life in a positive way during a very difficult time in the child’s young life.”
Donna Walker is retired from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. She is a gardener, a mentor at
Burroughs-Molette Elementary and has volunteered with Faith Works. She says she would not be satisfied
with herself if helping others was not a part of her life. CASA will give her the opportunity to help.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Please join us in wishing them a Happy Birthday!

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Victim Advocate for D.A.’s Office
Jo Jump is the Victim Advocate for felony cases at the District Attorney’s Office. Often it takes 1-2 weeks
after an arrest for the paperwork to arrive at the D.A.’s office, therefore Ms Jump will contact the victim to
find out what type of immediate assistance he/she may need such as safe housing, counseling, or
compensation for medical expenses. She will then outsource these requests. Once the court case beigins
she acts as the point of contact between the victim and attorney. She helps explain all of the court
procedures and hearings and also explains the victim’s entitlement to have input during court. This service
is free of charge. Ms. Jump’s contact number is 912-554-7200
