The Royal Tyrrell Museum seeks a dedicated horticulturalist to look after a large and complex collection of living plants. Canada's only museum devoted entirely to palaeontology, the Royal Tyrrell Museum is committed to the collection, conservation, research, display and interpretation of Alberta's palaeontological history. Reporting to the Head of Exhibit Services and working within the Exhibits and Communications Section, the Horticulturalist will be responsible for maintaining a living botanical recreation of Drumheller's environment as it existed 72 million years ago. The position acts within the scope of Alberta's Historical Resources Act and implements best practices to ensure appropriate acquisition, maintenance and care of a diverse collection of living plants. The position assists with contract management and supports gallery maintenance and redevelopment in the public galleries of the Royal Tyrrell Museum as they pertain to the Palaeoconservatory. The successful candidate will have formal training in horticulture and broad knowledge of plant growth requirements, pest and disease control using environmentally friendly methods, and watering systems. Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills are imperative in order to ensure confident and effective communication with researchers, colleagues and the visiting public. A keen interest in supporting horticultural research in cooperation with the scientific, educational, and exhibits sections of the Museum is necessary. Qualifications Diploma in Horticulture or a related field from a recognized institution required, as well as a minimum of 1 year of related experience in the field. Equivalencies will be considered. Salary $1,634.03 - $2,086.44 bi-weekly ($42,648 - $54,456 annually) Notes Successful candidates will be required to undergo security screening. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
