JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SCIENTIST (MX OFFICER) FOR THE DRUG
RESIDUES BRANCH, VPHL DIVISION
Responsibilities and Job scope:
The Scientist will be part of VPHL’s scientific team for food safety analyses with emphasis
on analyses of drug residues in food samples. He/She will be responsible for spearheading
method development and testing of foods and products of animal origin for veterinary drug
residues aligning with the smooth operations and objectives of the Branch. He/she will
report directly to the Head of Drug Residues Branch of VPHL.
The job scope of the Scientist includes, but not necessarily limited to the following:
To plan and perform routine analyses to provide technical support for “export
certification” and “import control” of food in line with national priorities and
international standards and practices.
To carry out development of new analytical functions to upgrade overall
technical competence of the Branch.
To carry out specific duties and development projects assigned by the Branch
To implement the Branch’s quality assurance programmes and laboratory
safety measures so as to ensure that all test results are accurate, reliable and
consistent and in compliance with all prescribed safety measures and
To maintain test records and assist in managing of laboratory data and
To monitor the performance of laboratory equipment in order to ensure that
analytical results are reliable, accurate and consistent.
To source and purchase laboratory consumables to ensure a continual supply
of goods required for the smooth functioning of the Branch.
To provide assistance in training conducted by the Branch
Qualifications and other requirements:
The candidate should have a degree in Science or Food Science with major in Chemistry or
Biochemistry preferably with a postgraduate degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
Candidates with working experience in a laboratory and with intimate knowledge and
experience in application of liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer/mass spectrometer
would be an added advantage.
