                                                Expectations, Terms, and Conditions

THE COUNCIL WILL
                                         Contribute a $1,500 scholarship for each participating educator
                                         Arrange itinerary including meetings and educational briefings
                                         Provide suggested reading list and pre-trip briefings
                                         Apply for 20 hours continuing education credit.
TEACHERS WILL
                                                                                                                                         st
                                         Pay a $1,500 non-refundable fee, if selected ($500 due April 30, remaining balance due by June 1 )
                                         Secure own travel insurance
                                         Attend all briefings and meetings while in Sri Lanka
                                         Be ready to obey the laws of the united States as well as those of the host country
                                         Understand cultural norms and behave in a manner that is professional and respectful
                                         Schedule two workshops or professional development activities for teachers based on their experience in Sri
                                          Lanka
                                         Describe how they have used the experience in their classroom, including lesson plans or other student
                                          materials
PROGRAM TIMELINE
April 13                      Application deadline
April 16-20                   Committee meets to consider applicants
April 20                      Applicants notified
April 30                      Non-refundable deposit of $500 due.
June 1                        Non-refundable remaining balance of $1,000 due, passport copy, and visa applications must be received
July 24*                      Leave for Sri Lanka
August 1*                     Return from Sri Lanka

*Trip departure and arrival dates may change by 1 or 2 days, depending on group flight availability and rates.


Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

          Employed as a full-time classroom teacher in grades 6-12; university professor, adjunct professor, assistant professor
          Employed in another education capacity such as an administrator, school counselor
          Priority consideration will be given to applicants with little or no travel experience in Asia.
          Have a demonstrated interest in international issues
