INTERNATIONAL TRADE AGREEMENT OR ORGANIZATION
Task: In groups of two create a brief report and presentation on a trade agreement or
Your assignment will consist of the following:
1) PowerPoint presentation.
2) Handout for students.
3) News article featuring or mentioning your topic.
4) Short video highlighting your topic (optional)
Keep each slide short and easy to read. Remember it is PowerPoint, not
powerparagraph. This means that each slide has points on it that you will speak about.
NOT paragraphs that you stand up at the front and read to the rest of the class.
There should be NO reading from a page. You must be familiar enough about your
portion of the report that you can speak to the class about it. You can use cue cards if
The presentation will cover 5 basic areas.
1. What is your agreement or organization? Brief explanation.
2. How/why did your agreement or organization come into being?
3. What does it do or cover? What is its mandate?
4. Give real life examples of what it does or covers.
5. Are there any controversies surrounding your agreement/organization? If so
describe what they are and if there is any merit to these controversies.
6. Summarize your news article and connect it to your presentation.
Your presentation must be anywhere from 5-15 minutes long. However, if your
presentation is interesting and engaging I will let you exceed the 15-minute mark.
This must be in “easy to understand language” or I will call you on certain terms you
used. Ex. Don’t use the phrase “multilateral trade cripples the transparency of
globalization” unless you are prepared to explain that to me.
You can say…. “multilateral trade cripples the transparency of globalization. What
that means is…….. and here is an example………. “
HANDOUT FOR STUDENTS
This is to be done on Microsoft word and sent to me by email. I will post it on the course
website under “Assignments and Readings” for Unit 2. The grammar in these notes
must, again, be easy to understand. Do NOT use any words or phrases that you cannot
explain. I will be checking you on this.
All students are responsible to download the handouts from the website and to have an
understanding of these trade agreements or organizations for tests and exams.
This article must be within the last 2 years. You are to summarize the article in your own
words and how it reflects your topic. Support what you said in your presentation with
what the article says. If it is a “controversy” surrounding the World Trade Organization,
you should have mentioned that in your presentation under controversy.
SHORT VIDEO (OPTIONAL)
If used, this can be a powerful tool to help your presentation. Make sure it is
PERTINENT TO YOUR PRESENTATION.
Explain how it supports points already made in your presentation or what students should
watch for to support points you will be making.
