					Career Options: Construction
The Construction Industry employs a large number of people in Ireland. As
might be expected, there are several different careers on offer in this sector.
For example, you might be interested in working as an architect,
draughtsman, civil engineer, structural engineer, bricklayer, carpenter,
plumber, electrician, painter, service installation contractor, quantity surveyor
or scaffolding erector.

How to Pursue a Career in the Construction Industry
It is possible to work in the construction industry without receiving any certified
training. However, many jobs do require a person to undergo formal training
or education.

Further Education
Individuals may choose from a range of courses offered at NCVA FETAC 2
level. These courses are run on both a full-time and part-time basis in local
Adult Education Centres and Secondary Schools. Some private colleges also
offer FETAC 2 qualifications. Course titles include:

    Computer Aided Design
    Construction Technology
    Engineering Technology

In addition, craftspeople such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters and
painters and decorators typically complete FÁS approved apprenticeships to
obtain their papers. To complete an apprenticeship, a person should obtain a
job as an apprentice with a suitable employer. The employer must then
register the person with FÁS at the start of the apprenticeship.
