Fathers’ Rights Attorney Jeffery Leving Discusses Jeffery DiMeglio’s Hunger Strike
CHICAGO, IL—Fathers’ Rights Attorney Jeffery M. Leving (http://dadsrights.com)
released the following statement in reaction to D.C. Monument Carver, Jeffery DiMeglio’s
Hunger Strike for Fathers’ Rights. For the past two weeks, DiMeglio, the Virginia-based
stone carver, has been on a hunger strike to protest what he says is the country's lack of
legal rights for fathers.
“The law is clear that both parents have an absolute legal obligation to provide financial
support to their children although the enforcement of the law often places a greater burden
on fathers due to the gender bias. The child support system is not working-not for parents,
not for children, and not for society. As I discuss in my book Fathers’ Rights, it is a well-
documented reality that financial support and parental involvement are interrelated and
equally important to the welfare of children. Until truth, justice, compassion and common
sense prevail more broadly and more consistently, fathers must fight to assert and preserve
the natural rights and constitutionally guaranteed freedoms that are mostly taken for
granted.”
