Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with a full one. He volunteered Burchfield as one and Reserve also has agreed to have next months meeting there. She also told us that Debbie Vogels dad has donated a car for the high schools production of “GREASE”. Treasurers Report-Treasurer Debbie Vogel reported that our balance was 210.03 with three schools dues still due. Secretaries Report-Secretary Ilona McPherson stated no minutes were recorded last month because we had a holiday party. Superintendants Report- Dr. Lee spoke about the recent behavior problems at the SAIS. He assured us that all perpetrators have been identified and will be dealt with appropriately. He assured us that everything that was possible was being done to assure safety in the buildings. I am not going into details about each issue. He also stated that the remainder of the children and teachers did a great job evacuating. He said that new security systems would be installed in the district schools. A buzzer and a set of cameras will be installed at each school except the High School which will have to be reconfigured a bit to allow this. Basically the system will be set up to allow the Secretary and other personnel to view who is ringing the buzzer and then to make sure once they are buzzed in that they stop in the office to sign in. They will not be used after school hours for extra curricular activities. He spoke about the reconfiguration and said that the architect will present the plan to the high school PTA and asked that the middle school would be included. This would happen on March 28 at the High School in the evening. He mentioned that supplies and equipment prices have gone up 10% since the original plan started. He supplied us with a copy of the annual district report card. It is also available on our website. The issue of smoking in the bathrooms came up again. It is an ongoing issue that really has no solution. Thank you for all your information. We really do appreciate having you speak at each meeting. Assistant Superintendants Report- Dr. Joe Latess spoke about the ongoing curriculum writing in the district. The focus group on transition into all day kindergarten and other issues that are due too occur in 2008/2009 is almost complete. They have been working on our actual assessments procedures and tests. We are looking at the FORSIGHT assessment The District has not adopted this program yet. They provide quarterly assessment for the students. We are not adding test we are trying to find something that is more efficient and to let us know what progress your child is making at this time and how they compare in their classroom instead of how they compare to the rest of the country. We are approaching budget time which ends on June 20. The Classroom of the Future grant is in full swing. It has provided a coach to help teach everyone how to use the new technology. Laptops and Ect. He mentioned that this is directed towards the High School only. This is a three year grant and will provide us with more technology. The coach will help the teachers know how to use them in the classroom and teach the children what to do and how to use them proficiently. The whole idea is to make sure the children are learning what technology they need to move on in their future. Principals Report- Ms. Leah McCord attended from Rogers Elementary. She presented a power point presentation about the school and students and their progress on tests and other programs. The guidance counselor also told us about different programs they have at Rogers to combat bullying. It was an informative and interesting time.
