                Constructing The Link Pyramid

Now that we’ve looked at choosing our keyword
phrases, it’s time to determine how we will construct our
link pyramid.

As I said before, we’re going to be working from the
bottom up. As you’ve seen from the previous chapter,
we're selecting a plethora of long-tail keywords based off
each keyword phrase in the middle section of our link
pyramid.

We are going to re ect this within our linking structure.

Let's go back to the acne example that we've been building on in the previous
chapters. Here's a quick refresher on where we left off:

www.PaulieCiara.com 3
The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

At the top of our pyramid, we've got the keyword, acne.

At the middle level of our pyramid, we've got skin resurfacing, photo acne
scaring, microdermabrasion, acne scars, acne treatments, acne solution, chid acne, back
acne, acne cream (again, for the purpose of this example, I've just pulled the keywords in
the middle level of our pyramid out of a hat).

At the bottom level of our pyramid, we got keyword phrases arranged in
groups based off the keyword phrases in the middle of our pyramid.

In the previous chapter, we created a very small group on the keyword phrase,
acne scars.

For this group, we selected get rid acne scars home remedies, aloe vera gel acne
scars, tea tree oil acne scars, honey acne scars, benzoyl peroxide acne scars, vitamin e oil
acne scars, olive oil acne scars, salicylic acid acne scars, face mask acne scars, dermatologist
acne scar treatment, glycolic acid peel acne scars, cucumber acne scars, turmeric cystic acne,
turmeric acne scars, turmeric mask acne, turmeric capsules acne, and herbal remedies acne
scar. This is our acne scars keyword group.

All caught up? Great! Let's get started!

       Bottom Level of Our Pyramid

Let's start at with get rid acne scars home remedies.

First, since we're going to be linking up from these webpages at the bottom level
of our pyramid, we're going to create an acne scars webpage so that the we can link to it
from our acne scars keyword group in the bottom level of our pyramid. For now, this
acne scars webpage can consist of something as simple as an article.

We're going to make sure that our domain re ects the webpage we are creating.
Since get rid acne scars home remedies is in the acne scars keyword group, we would
name our domain something like:

       www.yourdomain.com/acnescars/getridacnescarshomeremedies/.

We're going to write an article on get rid acne scars home remedies, then we will
post this article on our get rid acne scars home remedies webpage as content.

www.PaulieCiara.com 4
The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

Since get rid acne scars home remedies is in the acne scars keyword group, we will
link this page to our acne scars page (in the middle of our pyramid), and we will also link
to our acne page (at the top of our pyramid).

Great! Now let's move on to our next webpage at the bottom of our pyramid, aloe
vera gel acne scars. On this page, we'll write a simple article on aloe vera gel acne scars.

This is where the “link wheel” starts coming into play.

On this page, we're going to link to the get rid acne scars home remedies page (the
page we just now created). We're also going to link to the acne scars page in the middle
level of our pyramid, and we're going to link to our acne page at the top of our pyramid.

Note how our aloe vera gel acne scars page links to our get rid acne scars home
remedies page, our acne scars page, and our acne page.

We're going to continue this pattern for each of our keyword phrases within this
acne scars group. Our pyramid should begin to look something like this:

www.PaulieCiara.com 5
The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

Note how each page at the bottom of the pyramid (the acne scars group) links to
the previous webpage, the webpage directly above it (our acne scars webpage) and the
webpage at the top of the pyramid (our acne webpage).

There is a decent deal of debate in the internet marketing community on whether
or not it’s better to leave a link wheel “broken.” Personally, my time can be better spent
than crusading around pointless debates, but to save time, I generally don't go back and
“close” my wheels (link the rst webpage in the bottom of my pyramid to the last
webpage in the bottom of my pyramid), and it's always worked ne for me.

Submit each of these pages at the bottom of your pyramid to RSS directories and
social bookmark websites to get the link juice started (we'll talk more about this in
chapter 6).

At this point, we've got a host of websites at the bottom of our pyramid. Most of
these will be at the top of the Google SERPS in NO time. However, some will not. For this
reason, we're going to create a few more link wheels.

Remember the link wheel we looked at in chapter 2?

www.PaulieCiara.com 6
The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

This is what we are going to create, except that instead of a money blog in the
center, we will put our long-tail keyword webpage in the center.

Now, writing articles takes time and effort. I don't like writing any more articles
than I need, and I assume that you feel the same way. Fortunately for us, there's a way
around writing all these articles.

      http://simply-free-article-spinner.com/

Bam! There we go! Let's say that our benzoyl peroxide acne scars website isn't
where we want it in the Google SERPS, so we're going to create a link wheel around it.

We're going to take the article that we wrote for our benzoyl peroxide acne scars
webpage, and we are going to spin it with Simply Free Article Spinner.

This is an easy way to get “unique enough” content that is still extremely theme
relevant.

We are going to insert a spun version of our benzoyl peroxide acne scars article into
each spoke of our link wheel. In typical link wheel fashion, we're going to link our spokes
to our benzoyl peroxide acne scars page, we're going to link our spokes together in a
wheel, and we're going to submit each spoke to RSS directories, social bookmarking
websites etc... (more on this in chapter 6).

In your link wheel spokes, don't hesitate to sprinkle in a few links pointing to the
webpage in the middle of your pyramid and the webpage at the top of your pyramid.

Remember, since each spoke we create is linked together in our pyramid, even the
smallest and most “insigni cant” of links will help our entire domain. It may not be
apparent at rst, but in time, the sheer number of links going to our domain will cause
Google view our website as an authority in our niche. This will make it much easier for
us to rank for any term that we choose.

Google will see a page on our domain and say “oh yeah, I know this domain, they've
got a ton of good theme related content and I trust them. Since I already know they'll give
visitors quality content, I'll give them the top position in my SERPS” (paraphrased slightly).

Remember, Google is all about guiding searchers to the best content.

www.PaulieCiara.com 7
The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

In this example, we've created a very small keyword group on acne scars. If we
were really attempting to conquer this niche, we would make this group FAR FAR larger.

After nishing up with this keyword group (which, for a niche this large, could be a
multiple month-long task), we'll move on to the next keyword group at the bottom of
our pyramid; acne creams, for example.

Again, we'll observe our linking structure by linking these webpages to each other
in a wheel (at the bottom level of our pyramid), we'll link these webpages to our acne
creams webpage (in the middle level of our pyramid), and we'll link these webpages to
our acne webpage (at the top level of our pyramid). If we are not happy with our
position in the SERPS for any of these bottom level webpages, we will create link wheels
around these webpages until we have the ranking we want.

The nal chapter of this series (Chapter 7), is a list of spokes can use for your link
wheels. These spokes arranged in order of Page Rank and should come it quite handy.

Alright, now that we've discussed the linking structure in the bottom level of our
pyramid, let's move on to the linking structure in the middle level of our pyramid.

     Middle Level of Our Pyramid.

Let's imagine that we're done with the acne scars keyword group, the acne creams
keyword group, and all the other keywords groups at the bottom of our pyramid. We've
written pages for them, we've observed the proper linking structure, and now we're
ready to tackle the keyword phrases in the middle level of our pyramid.

The work that we already did at the bottom level of our pyramid will have helped
boost the webpages in the middle level of our pyramid signi cantly in the Google SERPS.
As a results, these webpages will already be ranked in Google, and will also have a fairly
good ranking in the SERPS.

Take acne scars for example. There are 914,000 results in Google for this keyword
phrase (in quotes, and at the time of this writing). Instead of starting at position 914,000,
you may be starting at a position of 23 or so. That’s a head start of almost 1 million!

We will be linking the webpages in the middle level of our pyramid together in a
wheel in the same way that we did in the bottom level of our pyramid. We will also be
linking these webpages to the webpage at the top of our pyramid.

www.PaulieCiara.com 8
The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

However, unlike the link wheels at the bottom of our pyramid, we will do some
major promotion to these link wheels. We will do some link building (using my free
backlink packages that you'll be receiving every week), and we will be using many of the
traffic techniques presented in chapter 6.

Alright, now that we've discussed the linking structure in the bottom and middle
levels of our pyramid, let's move on to the linking structure in the top of our pyramid.

     Top of Our Pyramid

At this point, your holy-grail keyword phrase should have a very good position in
the Google SERPS.

Everything we've done up to this point has been pushing this webpage up to the
top of the SERPS. We've been creating webpages in the middle level of our pyramid that
link to this top level webpage. In addition, we've created link wheels around these
webpages each of which also links to this top level webpage, and we've been pumping
these pages with link juice using backlinks, RSS directories, social bookmarking etc.

We've also created countless webpages at the bottom of our pyramid that link to
this webpage both directly, and indirectly (through the middle level of our pyramid). In
addition, we've been creating link wheels around these webpages to help them with
their rankings. We've been sprinkling the spokes of these link wheels with links to our
this acne page as well. Talk about some serious link juice!

If by this point the webpage at the top of our pyramid isn't where we want it to be,
it's simply a matter of building backlinks, and going back and expanding on the
keyword phrases in the middle and bottom levels of our pyramid.

If you have several webpages in the middle and bottom levels of your pyramid
that aren't where you want them in the SERPS, now is the perfect time to go back and
create link wheels around these webpages. Make sure that as you create these wheels,
you insert links to the top of your pyramid within your spokes.

Remember, the more links you have pointing to your website, the more attention
Google will give to it. Each links that points to your website, is in effect, “recommending”
your website to Google. If you have 1000 “recommendations” and a competitor of yours
has only 500 “recommendations,” Google will assume that you have more
“recommendations” simply because your website is better. Google will take note of this
and will reward you website in the SERPS accordingly.

The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

     Reviewing Our Head Start

Take a moment to consider the incredible head start you've gained by following
this linking structure that the typical internet marketer doesn't have.

The typical internet marketer throws up a website on acne. Every day (if he's
consistent), he might build a simple link wheel or two, me might write an article or two,
and he might create a handful of backlinks to his acne website. Since his main goal is
simply to create backlinks only to his acne page to make it rise in the SERPS, he sees very
little (if any) traffic from his efforts. After a few months pass, Google notices that his
domain isn't evolving or growing, and puts a strike against him.

Worst of all, he doesn't have a plan. He has a goal (getting to the top of the SERPS),
but had no method of achieving it. He simply drives by the seat of his pants, and does
whatever he feels like he should do.

YOU, on the other hand, are ying ahead with astounding progress. Every single
webpage you make brings in traffic (remember those long-tails!) After nishing up just
ONE keyword group at the bottom level of your pyramid, you are already seeing
hundreds of daily visitors to your domain.

In addition, every webpage and every link wheel you create contains links to the
web pages in the middle and top levels of your pyramid, which pushes them up in the
SERPS! Furthermore, every time the Google-bots crawl your website, they observe that
your domain is consistently evolving and growing with good quality content. To top this
off, Google also notices constant links growth as a result of your backlink building
efforts and your link wheels.

Best yet, you've got a plan to follow. Unlike the typical internet marketer who
randomly creates backlinks, randomly puts up videos, and usually nds himself
squandering hours on YouTube and Facebook, you always know your next step. You
always know which long-tail keyword phrase to tackle next, you always know when to
make a link wheel to boost a particular website, you always know when to create a few
backlinks -- Because YOU HAVE A BLUEPRINT TO FOLLOW!

The nal icing on this cake is that when you're nally ready to start tackling your
holy-grail keyword phrase, you are, in effect, “starting” with a mind boggling head-start
over every other internet marketer in your niche!

www.PaulieCiara.com 10
The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

Think about it. You've got a SERPS position of 14 or so, and he's got a position of 5
gajillion or so. Talk about a a killer head start!

                                        Anchor Text

As long as we are discussing linking and link building, It's important that you
NEVER use the exact same anchor text (the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink) for every
single contextual link to a webpage of yours.

For example, if we're linking to our acne webpage, we won't use acne as our
anchor text for every single link to our acne webpage. The search engines DON'T like
this.

Since we're in the business of doing what the search engines reward, use the
following guide for the anchor text you use when creating links:

     60% primary target keyword/keyword phrase e.g. acne

20% alternative keyword phrase e.g. acne skin

     10% alternative keyword phrase

     10% alternative keyword phrase

     5% alternative keyword phrase

     5% alternative keyword phrase

I should also mention that not only is acne is one behemoth of a keyword to take
down, it's not even a buyer keyword. Your time might be better spend going after a
phrase like acne scars (which I realize, isn't a textbook buyer keyword either), but at least
your visitors will be more targeted, and you will have an end goal that is much more
manageable.

The Link Pyramid and Squeeze Pages

Again, I almost always include an opt-in box on each of my pages in addition to an
article. I also take major advantage of the fact that since this is MY website, I can do
everything that the pesky ezinearticles staff eagerly vetos.

www.PaulieCiara.com 11
The Link Pyramid Paulie Ciara

One of the best squeeze page resources is Jason Fladlien's, Bare Essence Squeeze
Pages. The fact that it's only $17 doesn't hurt either!

Since our webpages will have articles on them, these won't be textbook squeeze
pages, but the 3 templates and the ideas in this package will certainly get us pointed in
the right direction.
