Dear Parent/Carer,

May I introduce myself and welcome you to a new term at Hasland Junior
School. I have been a headteacher for over ten years and very much look
forward to working in partnership with you for the education of your children.

I am delighted to welcome other new staff, Miss Daljit Shanan joins us as a year
five teacher and Mrs Charlotte Howe joins us as a teaching assistant. Mrs
Duncan will be acting deputy head for the year to cover Mrs Baxter’s
secondment.

Many exciting events and activities are planned for the term. The dates for these
follow at the end of this letter. Please look out for individual letters regarding trips
and activities as these will be sent home with children from the classes
concerned. You will notice from the dates that there is a change to Christmas
productions. This year classes from year three will put on a
Christmas performance and classes from year five will organise a
Carol Service. Classes from year four will put on a production in
the spring term and year six will put on a production in the summer.
By spreading out the performances more parents will be able to
attend and staff will have better access to the hall and other
resources. All classes except year six are to have Christmas parties in the last
week of term; year six are planning a “Victory Party” to tie in with their WWII topic
instead. Further details of all these events will be sent nearer the time.

How to be a Time lord
Chesterfield Children’s Centre and library are working together on a
four week course for dads and their junior age children. “How to be a
Time Lord” enables dads and children to work together to trace their
ancestors. For further information contact Ian at Chesterfield Childrens
centre on 01246283030.

Derbyshire Road Safety team is carrying out its annual Child Car
Safety Seat Checking at Sainsburys, Chesterfield on Tuesday 23rd
September. For further information contact the team on 01629 585460.
Healthy Schools Status
As part of the Every Child matters initiative we would like to work with you in
keeping your child healthy and safe. There are lots of ways in which
you can help us. If you need to come into school please use the main
entrance only as this allows us to see and record who is entering the
building. (If you need to speak to a teacher you will always welcome
but the end of the day is often better than when a teacher is meeting
his/her class.)

Secondly continue to encourage your children to eat healthily as I
can see many of you do already: children are eating fruit at breaks
and have healthy meals in their lunch boxes. Unfortunately I have
spotted a few lunch boxes filled with chocolates or sweets - and yes
the children always eat these first! I have also noticed the
playground bins have many sweet papers and empty crisp packets amongst the
apple cores.

Playground
Children are not allowed on the playground equipment before or after school. The
Health and Safety Team advise that we must remind parents
of this, as the school cannot accept responsibility for any
injury that may occur. Can we ask that parents bringing other
children on the school site be responsible for their care and
behaviour.

Dinner Money
Please note that dinner money is £1.80 per day i.e. £9.00 per
week. If paying by cheque please make this payable to
Derbyshire County Council or DCC. Please place
money/cheque in a sealed envelope with childs name, class
and amount enclosed – thank you.

Medicine in School
If your child requires any medicine/inhalers in school please can
you contact the school office for a form that needs to be
completed for your child to have medication in school.

I am always happy to receive feedback from parents and carers
on newsletters or on the items they contain.

If you would like to receive the newsletter in large print, Braille or other form
please discuss this with the school office.

Yours sincerely

V Lambert
