SAFE WORKING WITH ELECTRICITY


PORTABLE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

1.    Is there any damage to the plug eg. cracked casing, bent pins?
2.    Are coloured insulation wires showing where the cable enters
      the plug or the equipment?
3.    Is there any damage to the cable covering eg. cuts/abrasions?
4.    Are there any joints in the cable?
5.    Is the equipment being used in conditions where it is not
      suitable eg. a wet or dusty workplace?
6.    Is there any damage to the outer cover of the
      equipment/obvious loose parts or screws?
7.    Is there evidence of overheating eg. burn marks/ staining?
8.    Is non-electrically tested extension lead being used with the
      equipment?
9.    Is any equipment being used outside or in wet areas without
      RCD Protection?

Section Two: - Inside the plug

1.    Is the cord grip loose or missing?
2.    Are bare wires visible other than at the terminals?
3.    Are the wires, including the earth where fitted, in the wrong
      terminals?
4.    Are all terminal screws loose?
5.    Is an incorrect fuse fitted?
6.    Are there signs of internal damage?
7.    Are there signs of overheating?




N.B. If any answer is YES, the equipment should immediately be taken out of use until an
electrical test is undertaken by a qualified person.
