Classes are offered to students entering grades K- 8.

The following classes require pre-registration on enclosed enrollment form:
Class P-1 Kindergarten (entering in Fall 2012) (Session 1 and 2)
Title:                 Pre-Kindergarten Readiness
Teacher:               Deanne Twehus, Jacki Downing, Bethann Stieferman, Jody Bennett
We’re getting ready for kindergarten! Students will be exposed early to the kindergarten experience. This class will help prepare your child for
kindergarten. We will have story time, sharing, calendar, play time, rest time, lunch and recess each day. Taught by veteran kindergarten
teachers, your child will be on track for the fall after taking this class! This class can be taken for one session or for both sessions. Students
must be 5 years old by August 1, 2012.

Class E-1               Grades 1-2 (Session 1)
Title:                  Explore the High Seas            Teacher: Sara Carrender and Jennifer Adrian
Arrgh mateys! Come set sail with us as we explore the life of a pirate cruising the high seas. Upon our adventure we will encounter many
exciting sea creatures that we will discover through our nifty telescopes. Your days will be filled with treasure hunts, crafts, and many exciting
explorations.

Class E-2              Grades 1-2 (Session 2)
Title:                 Fairy Tale Favorites            Teacher: Sara Carrender and Jennifer Adrian
Once upon a time some first and second graders came to the land of the Falcons to enjoy learning about enchanted forests, prince and princesses,
castles, dragons, and many other exciting topics. We will create our own fairy tale adventures as we enjoy a different fairy tale each day.

Class E-3              Grades 1 (Session 1)
Title:                 Animals, Animals Everywhere Teacher: Jackie Prenger
Do you think animals are interesting? Would you like to learn more about animals? In this class we will learn about animals from everywhere
through literature, games, songs, art, puzzles and hands on exploration.

Class E-4                Grades 1-2 (Session 1 & 2)
Title:                   Reading Camp                      Teacher: Amy Antle
This class is for the struggling reader who needs that little boost. Reading Discovery is designed to teach a typical reader the critical skills, and
strategies essential for his or her reading success. In my summer reading class, children will learn through direct positive experience that letters
and sounds go together to make words, words go together to make sentences, and sentences make stories. They also will learn that stories and
text have meaning, and stories can be read for information and enjoyment. The basic component skills and strategies necessary for reading, such
as phonemic awareness (the sounds within words), print awareness, phonics, sounding out, segmenting and blending, etc., are explicitly mastered
in a fun, “learn by doing” manner.

Class E-5              Grades 1-2 (Session 2)
Title:                 Going Dino!                      Teacher: Katlyn Borgmeyer
Do dinosaurs fascinate you? If so, you will love digging up dinos and exploring what it would have been like to live with them. Join us for some
“excavating” activities! It will be a blast!

Class E-6            Grades 1-2 (Session 1)
Title:               Disney Adventure                 Teacher: Rachel Muenks
If you enjoy Disney movies, come join Disney Adventure. We’ll do fun activities that go along with different Disney movies. Some of the
movies we will cover will be The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and more. We’ll do reading, writing, science, and math activities
with each movie.

Class E-7            Grades 1-2 (Session 1 &2)
Title:               Wild, Wild West                   Teacher: Marcia Markway and Kelly Carrender
Howdy Partners! Calling all cowboys and cowgirls! Come be a “summer school ranch hand” and be on the “Most Wanted” list. Let’s have
some fun with hay bale snacks, crafts, roping and much more!!

Class E-8              Grades 1-2 (Session 2)
Title:                 Fun on the Farm                  Teacher: Allison Redel
Let’s have some fun down on the farm. We will be learning about all kinds of farm animals through stories, crafts, songs, games and hands-on
activities. Come join the excitement as we try to make butter and ice cream along with other farm related snacks. Don’t be afraid to get your
hands dirty with fun on the farm!

Class E-9             Grades 1-3 (Session 1)
Title:                Galaxy Sailing                   Teacher: Michelle Campbell
Come join us as we take a trip through outer space. See what it is like to adventure among the stars and planets and to come face to face with the
asteroids and meteorites. Through science and exploration, become one of the Blair Oaks first space cadets.
Class E-10            Grades 1-3 (Session 1)
Title:                Do you Got It? If so, BRING it ON!!               Teacher: Linda Taylor
Are you up for a challenge? Do you like a little competition? This class is all about that and much more. We will learn how to compete in a
friendly manner with good sportsmanship in a variety of friendly competitions like field games to party games to games that exercise your brain.
So if you think you have what it takes, then bring on your “A” game. There will be daily competitions including individual games as well as
“boys vs. girls” competitions. Come see who will climb to the top of the mountain first. Will it be you? Will it be the boys? Or will it be the
girls. Seriously, come join us in our friendly little feud to see if you have what it takes!!

Class E-11             Grades 1-3 (Session 2)
Title:                 Whoville!                       Teacher: Julie Dunbar
Come take a journey to Whoville with the help of Horton, the curious elephant. Explore the teeny world of the Whos created by Dr. Seuss. We
will explore Horton Hears a Who and How the Grinch Stole Christmas to find out the wonders of Whoville. Also pick other Suess favorites
you’d like to dive into! Come learn about and create your own teeny tiny part of Whoville. On the last day we will create a class of Whoville.

Class E-12             Grades 1-3 (Session 1)
Title:                 Art in America                  Teacher: Swantje Crane
Let’s make art inspired by American Artists! We will learn about artists from past to present. We will experiment with different art styles and
materials! Did you know that several American children’s authors also illustrate their own books? We will have fun as we paint, sculpt, draw,
and much, much, more. If you want to create artwork while learning about American artists this is the class for you!

Class E-13            Grades 2-3 (Session 1 & 2)
Title:                Travel the World                 Teacher: Amanda Rademann
Pack your bags and grab your passports. Get ready for a trip around the world. We will visit different countries, learn about their culture, sample
foods and make crafts. You will also receive a stamp on your passport for each country we visit. This will be a trip you will not forget!

Class E-14             Grades 2-3 (Session 1 & 2)
Title:                 Kitchen Chemistry                 Teacher: Michelle Siebeneck
In our kitchen we will mix ingredients together to see what we can stir up by using a little of this and a little of that. Elephant toothpaste,
ooboleck, and flubber are just a few fabulous kitchen creations. Science, reading, writing and math will be thrown in the mixing bowl for this
spicy summer session. Come join me to see what fun and exciting things happen in our kitchen.

Class E-15              Grades 2-3 (Session 1)

Class E-16              Grades 2-3 (Session 1)
Title:                  Math Mysteries                     Teacher: Corina Henderson
Do you struggle with math? Is it all a mystery for you? This is the class for YOU!! This class will explore the mysteries of math by improving
skills in mathematics, critical thinking, reading and writing. We will do fun activities that will make you feel like you are not even doing math.
The class will use real life scenarios to solve the math mystery. Come join the class and become math detectives.

Class E-17             Grades 2-3 (Session 1)
Title:                 Summer Olympics                Teacher: Tiffany Lackman and Kathleen Schwartze
Live from Blair Oaks…it’s the Summer Olympics!!! Dive into learning about the Summer Olympics and meet the official mascots: Wenlock
and Mandeville. You will also learn which country has won the most medals and do several activities related to the Olympics. We will even host
our very own Olympics! Who will win the Gold, Silver, and Bronze in a variety of team and individual competitions. Do you have what it takes
to go for the gold? Join us and find out!

Class E-18             Grades 2-3 (Session 1)
Title:                 From Books to Art                    Teacher: Hilary Rich
Have you ever read a book and have been inspired to create? When you read can you picture the story in your mind? If you answered yes to
either of these questions then this is the class for you! In “From Books to Art” we will read several books and do book inspired art and other
activities.


Class E-19           Grades 2-4 (Session 2)
Title:               Hanging Out with Friends          Teacher: Michelle Dampf
Did you know that 80% of what we say to others is communicated through our body language? Come and have fun learning how to be a better
communicator with your friends through lots of great games, activities, and role plays. We will learn communication skills that will help you to
make and keep good friends throughout your life. At the end of class, we will celebrate by using our new skills during a summer party!
Class E-20           Grades 3-4 (Session 1 & 2)
Title:               Girl’s Club                         Teacher: Tara Schulte and Sheri Holland
Grab some of your best buds and come hang out with us at Girl’s Club. We will design our nails, fix our hair, make lip gloss, and tie die shirts
along with many other fun activities. To top it all off we will end our summer school session with a “sleepover party”. Don’t miss out on this
awesome opportunity to hang out with your friends.

Class E-21             Grades 3-4 (Session 1)
Title:                 Design your Disney World          Teacher: Kimberly Buschjost
Students will do fun activities with Disney movies geared to older students (Free Willy, Flubber, etc.) and get to create their own Disney World
model filled with rides that they have created from the movies we experienced. Let your imagination come to life!

Class E-22             Grades 3-4 (Session 2)
Title:                 A Twist to Happily Ever After Teacher: Kimberly Buschjost
Students will read different fairy tales, act out plays involving different fairy tale characters, make props for their plays, and even play
games and do creative activities with these fun-filled stories. Come join us in putting a twist to the stories you have heard your whole
life.

Class E-23             Grades 3-5 (Session 1)
Title:                 Silly Sports & Goofy Games Teacher: Debbie Wagner
Do you like puzzles? Do you enjoy games of all sorts? If you’re ready for an adventure, this is the class for you. We will be solving mysteries,
puzzles, and learning games to play this summer. Indoor and outdoor activities will keep us on our toes. Scavenger hunts, team building, silly
sports, and goofy games will fill our days with laughter.

Class E-24             Grades 3-5 (Session 2)
Title:                 Quest for the Outdoors             Teacher: Debbie Wagner
Are you interested in the environment? Do you have a fascination with living things? Do you like to conduct experiments? Join our class and
conduct experiments, create art, study plants, animals, insects, water, and more. We will play games, create journals, learn about the outdoors,
create summer school memories and much, much more!

Class E-25             Grades 3-4 (Session 1)
Title:                 Aloha Hawaii                     Teacher: Laura Vandike
Dive in and have a blast in Hawaii! We will explore the islands of Hawaii and learn what this awesome paradise has to offer. Let’s
hit the beach, explore volcanoes, tasted foods of Hawaii and learn how these great islands were formed. Come join the fun in Hawaii!

Class E-26            Grades 3-4 (Session 2)
Title:                What’s Your Style                 Teacher: Swantje Crane
Let’s make art! This is your chance to make different styles of art work. We will have fun learning about different artists and styles. As an artist
you will see what inspires you. We will draw, paint, and overall create different types of art. No two artists are the same...so come and share
your style.

Class E-27             Grades 3-5 (Session 1 & 2)
Title:                 World Champion Cardinals Baseball             Teacher: Brian Markway
The St. Louis Cardinals are the 2011 World Series Champions! Relive the moments of the Cardinals Playoff run while discovering the past of
our historic franchise. Talk about your favorite players, learn how to take and analyze baseball statistics, and even play a bit of ball yourself! We
will also enjoy some other sports activities.

Class E-28              Grades 3-4 (Session 2)
Title:                  Around the World                 Teacher: Laura Vandike
Let’s take a trip around the world. How many places can we explore? Africa, Australia, France, Mexico, Antarctica and more are waiting for us!
Let’s learn what all of these places have to offer. We will learn about food, history, and the animals of each place that we visit.

Class E-29              Grades 3-4 (Session 1)
Title:                  Take Me Out to the Ball Game!            Teacher: Kelly Haney and Corey Wood
Next up to bat is the talented & amazing YOU!! Look at the lay-up! He shoots! She scores! Calling all athletes to a fun and fast paced nine
days! Wear your tennis shoes! We’re on the go! From the sports we all know and love, to some new and creative games. Bring your water and
sunscreen! This class is guaranteed to be a winner!! On your mark, get set, GO!!!

Class E-30              Grades 3-4 (Session 1)
Title:                  Exploring with Chromebooks Teacher: Tori Berendzen and Tammi Hoecker
This class is for students who love using technology and love finding out more information using technology. We will start with basic activities
to familiarize students with the Chromebooks (a mix between a laptop and a tablet) and then do multiple projects using them. This is a great class
for students who are interested in technology.

Class E-31            Grades 3-5 (Session 1)
Title:                Legos!                          Teacher: Kelly Hanna
This will be fun! Everything Legos. Design and build. Recreate famous buildings, landmarks, and scenes from fiction. Create game and
compete in design contests.
Class E-32             Grades 3-4 (Session 2)
Title:                 Native American Summer             Teacher: Jennifer Bish
We will be doing numerous hands-on activities to learn about the Native American way of life. We will explore how they lived off the land, their
customs, building their homes, their food, traditions, crafts, music and so much more. We will also use materials to build small homes from
different tribes and explore which tribes were friends and also enemies.

Class E-33            Grades 3-5 (Session 2)
Title:                Falcons Teaming Up                Teacher: Jessica Baumhoer & Kayleigh Abernathy
Falcons will team up and work together in different challenges, games, relays and sporting events. Students will learn team building skills while
having fun.

thought about designing your dream house? If so, this class is for you! We will learn how designers get inspiration and then we will create some
of our own one-of-a-kind designs.

Class E-39            Grades 4-6 (Session 1)
Title:                Water Works!                     Teacher: Keven Barger
Beat the heat this summer! Enjoy learning about the water cycle, where drinking water comes from, and experiments with water! We will also

Class E-40              Grades 4-6 (Session 1)
Title:                  Games Galore                     Teacher: Beth Parrish
It’s time to get your game on. Learning doesn’t have to be boring. Join us as we play games that will teach you new ways to have fun. This
class will be held both inside and outside as we explore a variety of activities. Both individual and group games will be taught. We’ll play some
old-time favorites, board games, card games, and we’ll even go digital. Along the way respect, cooperation, leadership, patience and honesty will
be emphasized right along critical thinking skills.

Class E-41             Grades 5-6 (Session 2)
Title:                 The Great Outdoors                 Teacher: Beth Parrish
Get in touch with the great outdoors and learn about the wonders of the wildlife that is right in our very own backyard. In this class we will enjoy
indoor and outdoor activities that will help you become more aware of the excitement that the outdoor life has to offer. We will study plants,
tress, animals, bats and insects all in a hands-on fun way to learn.
Class E-42             Grades 4-6 (Session 1)
Title:                 Sink Yourself into Science       Teacher: Pamala Keating
There is no better way to spend your summer than sinking yourself into Science. This summer you can be an inventor and invent a new toy.
Ever wanted to mix your own chemical reaction and watch it fizz, smoke and smell? Be a product tester and discover just which popcorn really
does pop the most kernels. Who, who, who wants to crack open some owl pellets and see just what those owls ate? Want to be an
environmentalist and help save endangered turtles? You can even become a force and motion expert and build a roller coaster. Discover the
secrets to sound while playing a musical instrument and then create your own! You will be able to do all this and more!

Class E-43             Grades 4-6 (Session 2)
Title:                 Crafty Hands                       Teacher: Amanda Crawford
Arts and crafts are fun and creative. Join us this session as we put our creative minds to use. We will do a variety of art and craft projects, some
based on books. We will read, and create a portfolio of our creations.


Class E-44            Grades 4-6 (Session 1 & 2)
Title:                Games Around the World          Teacher: Tyler Lueckenhoff
Looking for some new games to play? Then you have come to the right place. In this class, we will explore many different games from other
countries such as Germany, Greece, China, Mexico, United States and many more. We will spend time learning about each country’s culture and
traditional games. You will even have an opportunity to create your own traditional game and teach it to the rest of the class.

Class E-45             Grades 4-5 (Session 1)
Title:                 Sports Madness                     Teacher: Nathan Holtmeyer
Four square, kick ball, football, basketball, Frisbee and more! Learn the rules and strategies of these great sports. This class will help reinforce
sportsmanship, skills and team building. What is better than friends and fun all in the sun!

Class E-46            Grades 4-5 (Session 2)
Title:                Fun at the Sports Arena           Teacher: Jill Linnenbrink & Candace Mitchell
What a catch! He’s safe! She scored 18 points! Triple overtime! That’s a winner! Do you enjoy watching sports? Playing sports?
Reading and discussing sports? If you answered yes to any of these questions then I have a fast paced 2 weeks for you? We will be
sporting many fun and exciting activities from actual games, sports treats to exciting challenges and competitions. On your mark, get
set…..Go! The game is about to begin!

Class E-47              Grades 5-6 (Session 2)

Title:                 Intro to Show Choir              Teacher: Kristin Chisham
This class will introduce and review some basic and intermediate show choir skills. Students will memorize pop/show/Broadway music along
with choreography and basic stunts. Students will choreograph the group songs. Each group will also perform for the other summer school
students. We will do this again in Session 2 and have new songs and new stunts. Students could take the class for both sessions. Students will
need to wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.

Class E-51            Grades 5-8 (Session 2)
Title:                Fabulous Me!                       Teacher: Cindy Jordan
Fabulous Friends!! Fabulous Family!! Fabulous Fun!! “You” will be the featured subject of this class. Create a scrapbook worthy of sharing! We
will feature you and your life in journaling! Learn the tools of the trade! We will create backdrops for the events in your life. We will have
everyone bring pictures to get us started. We will be stamping, cropping and creating!

Class E-52           Grades 5-8 (Session 1)
Title:               Hanging Out                        Teacher: Julie Graessle & Michelle Dampf
Have you ever had an awkward situation where you have said the wrong thing at the wrong time? If so, then this fun class is for you. We will
help improve your social skills. We will be having fun and playing games while we improve your social skills to take with you into the middle
school and beyond. We will play games, role play, and at the end we will celebrate by using our new found social skills in a party type
atmosphere.
Class E-53           Grades 5-8 (Session 1)
Title:               Minute to Win It                Teacher: Jennifer Bish
Have you ever seen the TV game show “Minute to Win it?” We will have a blast this summer competing in different games from the TV show
and even designing our own games! Are you up for the challenge? You’ve got a minute to win it…good luck!

Class E-54            Grades 5-8 (Session 1)

Title:                 Dabble in Decoupage               Teacher: Margo Patten
If you want to get your creative juices flowing and express yourself, decoupage is for you! Whether you are a budding artist or can’t draw
straight line you can make beautiful or wild and crazy art. As long as you can cut and paste and have a big imagination you will end up with
some great projects you can be proud of. Using copied photos, magazine clippings and other papers you can personalize almost anything. Go
small with boxes, ornaments, flowerpots, posters, cards or button or go large with chairs, dresser drawers or other furniture. The ideas are
endless, so get ready for some fun!

Class E-56            Grades 6-8 (Session 1)

This class will be themed around the book The Hunger Games. We will read and discuss the book and do a variety of fun activities associate
with it. We will also play a variety of competitive and non-competitive games.

Class E-58              Grades 6-8 (Session 2)
Title:                  Student v. Wild                 Teacher: Nathan Holtmeyer
Come explore the great outdoors! We will learn survival techniques hands-on as well as in the classroom. Learn to use a compass, read and
identify as variety of maps and explore edible plants. Be prepared to go outside a lot and participate in a variety of activities. Should be a good
time!

Class E-59             Grades 5-8 (Session 1)
Title:                 Mexico! Ole!                     Teacher: Julie Dunbar
Would you like to learn Spanish and discover Mexico at the same time? Come create your very own excursion to Mexico. You will learn basic
Spanish, plan a trip, and create a travel brochure. Where will you go?

E-60                  Grades 3-4 (Session 1)
Title:                Computers Galore                   Teachers: Aimee Schmidt and Heather Dixon
Do you want to know some cool things you can do on the computer? Well this is the class for you. We will explore making movies, creating
