Admission to Membership
Six Criteria
1. Sit & pass all examinations.
2. Demonstrate Practical Competence in IT.
(Certificate of Practice IT Competence)
3. Obtain 3 years relevant supervised
training.

Training Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years relevant supervised training.
• Practice or Industry or both.
• Supervised by a Qualified Accountant.
• One years training record should equate to between 44 – 48 weeks.
(Therefore six months training would equate to approx 26 weeks.)
• Three years training records should equate to a minimum of 132
weeks training.
• The training record is completed on a calendar year basis. (January –
December.)
• May submit training records up to 31st October 2011 to be eligible to
confer in December 2011.
Training Requirements
Reach In-depth Level of Competence in a minimum of two
of the following areas :
1. Financial Accounting
2. Auditing & Statutory Compliance
3. Corporate Planning, Control & Treasury Management
4. Information & Financial Systems
5. General Management
6. Taxation
Provide any additional information on Page 18.
Training Requirements
Three levels of training
1. Collect & Categorise (Level 1)
2. Analyse and Interpret (Level 2)
3. Report & Recommend (Level 3)
At Professional 2 stage, students should aim to have as much
of their training as possible at Level 3.
Upon application to membership, students must obtain a
minimum of 26 weeks Level 3 training across two areas.

Must submit 4 individual Record of In-Depth Competence statements across
two areas only. The statements must directly correspond with your training
record for that period.
An example of 4 statements could be :
Financial Accounting
1. Supervising the maintenance of all basic accounting records, using
standard accounting software. (Areas 1.1, 1.2 of the training record)
2. Preparing accounts from incomplete records. (Areas 1.2, 1.3 of the training
record)
Information/Financial Systems
1. Managing and carrying out detailed system analysis of a system and
advising on any of the key weaknesses. (Areas 4.2, 4.4 of the training
record)
2. Project management of financial accounting / management information
systems software / system installation. (Area 4.5 of the training record)

• Require 2 written references on company headed paper.
• One reference must be from a qualified accountant (CPA, ACCA,
CIMA, ACA etc)
• Typically, the reference from the qualified accountant will be the
person who has signed off your training records and competency
guide and return.
• The second reference can be from another line manager or another
qualified accountant if applicable.
• Both references can be from the same organisation if you have been
working in the same organisation for a number of years. Otherwise
you may use a previous employer to provide the second reference.
References
• The referee specifically recommends you for membership of CPA – “I
have no hesitation in recommending {Insert Name} for Admission to
Membership of CPA”.
• The referee states that you are of the level expected of a Newly
Qualified Accountant.
• The referee states that you are competent provides a number of
areas that you are competent in.
(e.g {Insert Name} is competent in the preparation of final
accounts.)
• The referee states that you behave ethical and professional at all
times.

Students should note that, following admission to membership, that they are
required to pay an Annual Member Subscription from 1 January each year.
The above Application to Membership fee does not include the Annual
Member Subscription for 2012, which, for members, falls due in January
2012. The Annual Member Subscription for 2011 is €544.)

CPA Conferring Ceremony
Late applications will incur an administrative fee of an
additional €150. There is no guarantee that any late
application will be reviewed and processed.
Conferring Ceremony
The Conferring Ceremony will take place on Saturday 10 December
in The Helix, DCU, Collins Avenue, Glasnevin, Dublin 9.
The Newly Qualified Seminar will take place on the morning of the
Conferring Ceremony.
Students who:
• Satisfy the entry requirements for admission to membership,
• Who fully comply with the Application to Membership Process, and
• Pay the appropriate fees,
will receive written confirmation of their approval for admission to
membership and a formal invitation to the Newly Qualified Seminar and
Conferring Ceremony in mid November 2011.
