Defect Map is an advanced attribute module of SPC Vision which
allows you to easily record and analyse all aspects of visual,
surface and attribute inspection. It provides key information
to help you control the manufacturing process and focus your
improvement ef forts.
Why is Defect Map Needed?
Products containing critical surface or cosmetic features are notoriously difficult to manufacture to
consistently high quality standards. This is partly due to the large number of potential defect causes
but also to the way in which the inspection data is collected, managed and analysed.
The combination of the inspection process being very subjective and normally only pass/fail data
recorded means it is very difficult to control the process and even harder to improve it.
How Can Defect Map Help?
By recording information such as defect type, location,
severity and size, defect map lets you clearly see
the problematic areas, whether a particular defect is
getting better or worse and also whether defects are
becoming more severe. This allows you to control
the process and focus your improvement efforts.
Key Features & Benefits
• Electronic ‘measles’ chart
• Records defect type, size, location & severity
• Real Time validation & analysis
• Non Destructive Testing
• Composite Surface Inspection
• Any products with critical cosmetic features
5 Steps to Focus your Process Improvement
Defect Map analysis is extremely visual and intuitive with
only a few clicks to provide all the information needed to
quickly identify, manage and resolve quality problems.
1. Reject Overview
Monitor the total number of defects, the
general trend and the location where the
defects are occuring.
2. Trend for Each Defect
The next step is to analyse the trend for each
of the individual defects.
3. Focus your Efforts
Attack the issues which are going to give you
the biggest improvement. Pareto charts will
clearly show you which defects are causing the
4. Location of Worst Defects
Now you know how big the problem is and
which defect is causing the most problems, it
is time to begin root cause analysis. The defect
map will show you the location zones where
the defects are occuring.
5. Deeper Analisis & Action
You now have a very clear problem definition
and a very narrow problem scope on which
to focus your improvement activity. You can
now begin to investigate root causes and test
corrective actions. All this has been achieved
with a few mouse clicks! There are many other
options for analysis and data filtering to help
you quickly resolve problems.
