suffix to TRULY be a prefix or suffix the
word must have a root word!

• EXAMPLE:

• Turns an adjective or
verb into a noun
• EXAMPLE:
assistance- the act of
assisting. (turns the
verb assist into a
noun)

• Tending to be
something
• EXAMPLE: Explosive:
tending to explode

• Made of something;
to make
• EXAMPLE: wooden
(made of wood)
• EXAMPLE: sweeten
(to make sweet)
