request usage of one of the fields at Brown’s Corner for a U23 summer soccer league,
which is run by Al Bell of Farmington. The league has insurance and they will only hold
5 games at Brown’s. The team will have many kids from New Hartford playing on it.
The Commission approved the usage and Dan Eddy just asked that Rob check with Sally
and Dave Czaja to be sure that this will not interfere with any programs that are using the
Jayson Beechinor told the Commission that the Race Around the Lake had 250
participants this year and the net was $2700. He also said an architect from Hobath
Associates will be coming up to the Field House on June 8th at 2:00pm to look at the
building and invited any members of the Commission who would also like to be there.

Recreation Director’s Report: (attached)
Utility Rate comparisons were revisited. The Comm members asked Dennis to research
competitors again to switch to lowest rated carrier. The Capital Expenditures Budget was
also discussed. All items discussed last month have been completed and installed except
the basketball backboards for Callahan Park which we have received but have not been
put up yet. The fence for Brown’s Corner will need to be professionally put back on the
map so it will probably cost more than the $1000 allocated. Dan Eddy also said that the
Master Plan map will have the SK8 Park site plan, the playground and the basketball
courts added, but doesn’t have any figures for the cost as yet. John asked what other
items may still be needed. Dennis said another rescue board is needed for the beach
which costs about $1000. He also told the Comm that there have been numerous requests
for campership this year. June 21st is the first week of camp this year. Sticker sales are
going well earlier this year most likely due to the beautiful weather.
Boat House demolition will happen but must be tested for any lead hazard first. Rick
Bernieke will be asked to test for this as he has the qualifications to do so.
Correspondence Dennis on behalf of the Rec Department sent a thank you to John
Maschi, for his donation again this year. The Bakker Agency has contributed over $10k
to the Rec Dept over the last 5 years.
A letter was received from one of the seniors requesting some type of benches on the
walking trails for seniors to stop and rest. Robbin suggested that the Boy Scouts be
contacted to make them as a project with the Commission providing the supplies. Dennis
Fire Marshall inspection reports are attached.
Tom Goddu has asked for permission to get a composting toilet for the Boy Scout Cabin.
Commission wants to be sure they have written permission from the Farmington Valley
Dennis printed a letter to the Register Citizen from a grandmother whose grandchild was
hurt on the playground. Letter and comments are attached.
The gate gets locked at dusk when the guards leave. Additional signs will be posted
explaining this. Dan Jerram asked the Comm to decide where the police boat can be
docked. Dan Janco and one state trooper are boat certified and they are asking members
from the town fire departments to be trained also. Dennis will ask if any of the lifeguards
are boat certified or would be interested in doing so.

Dan told the Comm that he was informed at the Town meeting for Brodie South that a
member of the town crew posted a sign requesting that dogs not be walked on the playing
fields. There is no delineation of where the actual fields are.
Dan also informed the Comm that a clause has been discovered in regards to the
placement of the changing booth. So that is no longer an issue.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:25 PM.
