Outcome 1

Demonstrate knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of freighting goods in
different transport industry sectors

Evidence requirements

1.1        Identify and compare the characteristics of each sector.

           Range         includes but is not limited to – size, speed, network, cost,
                         reliability, flexibility, modal capacity, ability to reach destination,
                         gross tonnage per annum, cargo handling ability and facilities,
                         inter-modal connectivity.

1.2        Describe the functions of the types of businesses operating in transport industry
           sectors.

           Range         includes but is not limited to – freight forwarding, customs broking,
                         transport operators, transport agents.

1.3        Explain the advantages and disadvantages of freighting goods using each
           sector

           Range         evidence of one advantage and one disadvantage for each sector
                         is required.

1.4       Justify the selection of an industry transport sector for the freighting of a given
          cargo
