In the early 1980s, at the beginning of what would become a 12-year-long civil war, El Salvador’s
talented fútbol team was one national institution upon which both the left and the right could agree. When

Featuring a selection of films by Miguel Gomes, one of Portugal’s brightest filmmaking talents.
hot on the heels of his fellow countrymen pedro Costa and João pedro rodrigues, portugal’s miguel gomes has made a swift ascent to the top of the world cinema
scene, winning prestigious awards at the Buenos Aires, guadalajara, são paulo and venice film festivals and attracting widespread critical acclaim for his second
feature, our Beloved month oF August. A playful, witty filmmaker in an era when dour seriousness seems to rule the festival roost, gomes blends comedy,
drama, documentary and music to paint rich portraits of contemporary portugal that are as charming as they are formally daring.
