Grants: Funded (2004– present Approx $7 million)

Transforming Earth System Science Education (NSF Geo Teach Program, 2006-2008, $3 million).
Focused on undergraduate teacher preparation program in Earth Science and in service
professional development programs for middle and high school teachers. This project is a
partnership between among 2 TWI’s (UNH, Penn State) and 2 HBCU’s (Dillard University, and
Elizabeth City State University (ECSU). (PI - Karen Graham).

Watershed Watch (NSF STEP program, 2005-2009, $1 million). The overall goal is to increase
STEM recruitment rates at UNH and ECSU, particularly among under-represented groups, by
involving them at an early academic stage in exciting, hands-on authentic, research focused on
scientific problems of societal relevance. This project is a partnership involving UNH, ECSU and
the NH Community Technical College in Stratham. (PI – Barry Rock).

Promoting Research to Benefit Education (PROBE). (NSF, 2004-2006, $1.9 million). PROBE is a
partnership between UNH and nine New Hampshire school districts focused on the development
and implementation of inquiry-based instructional practices in high school science teaching. (PI -
   Karen Graham).

GLOBE Carbon Cycle: Investigating the Carbon Cycle in Terrestrial Ecosystems (NSF Globe
Program, 2006-2009 1 million). Develop educational activities based on North American Carbon
Program research for students at the K-12 levels. (PI-Scott Ollinger Funded)

Proposals: Pending 2008 – 2009 (approx $ 7 million)

Inside-Out: Melding technology with outside learning experiences (NSF Informal Science Education,
$3 million, 5 years 2009 - 2014). Build upon the successful Seacoast Science Centers
“GeoAdventures” by expanding and transferring to approach to two regional science center
(Squam Lake Natural Sciemce Center and Mt. Washington Discovery Center). (PIs - Ru
    Morrison and Cameron Wake)
