(1) Basis is that all meals and snacks are purchased at stores and
prepared al home. For specific foods and quantities of foods in the
Thrifty Food Plan, see Family Economics and Nutrition Review, Vol. 13,
No. 1 (2001), pp. 50-64; for specific foods and quantities of foods in
the Low-Cost, Moderate-Cost, and Liberal Plans, see The Low-Cost,
Moderate-Cost, and Liberal Food Plans, 2003 Administrative Report
(2003). All four Food Plans are based on 1989-91 data and are updated
to current dollars by using the Consumer Price Index for specific food
items.
(2) All costs are rounded to nearest 10 cents.
(3) The costs given are for individuals in 4-person families. For
individuals in other size families, the following adjustments are
suggested: 1-person--add 20 percent; 2-person--add 10 percent;
3-person--add 5 percent; 4-person--no adjustment; 5- or
6-person--subtract 5 percent; 7- (or more) person--subtract 10
percent. To calculate overall household food costs, (1) adjust food
costs for each person in the household and then (2) sum these adjusted
food costs.
(4) Ten percent added for family size adjustment.

Our Philosophy
The goal of MAC is to provide an environment for the children which will allow them to grow to their full potential. We
offer premium educational-based daycare options for the children of families living in, and dual income and single
parents working in and around downtown Chicago. By following the traditional Montessori prestigious, MAC will serve to
awaken the love of learning inherent in children. Our programs enhance traditional day care methods by focusing on the
development of the prepared environment.

Windy City Kids Daycare
Attention Federal Employees!
Windy City Kids Child Development Center has been operating since April 1999. It is a high quality,
comprehensive and affordable child development program for children ages six weeks to five years. Windy
City Kids’ goal is to provide a full-day child development program for all children, regardless of their need,
to achieve independence, dignity and self-sufficiency. The program is located in the Harold Washington
Social Security Center (HWSSC), 600 W. Madison St., in Chicago. Easter Seals has a five-year contract with
the Employee Association at the HWSSC to manage their full-day child development program.
Program Update
Windy City Kids currently serves 74 children between the ages of six weeks and five years. The
target is for at least fifty percent of enrollment to be children of federal employees.
Windy City Kids was recently granted accreditation by the National Association for the Education of
Young Children (NAEYC). This prestigious recognition has been achieved by only 7% of early
childhood programs nationwide. NAEYC accreditation is a rigorous, voluntary process by which
early childhood programs demonstrate that they meet national standards of excellence.
Community outings have included Lincoln Park Zoo, Shedd Aquarium, Garfield Conservatory,
Kiddleland, Grant Park, Navy Pier, which were funded by mini-grants from the HWSSC Employee
Association.
An annual graduation is held for children who turn five years of age.
Enrollment slots are limited!
Openings currently exist for children
ages 6 weeks to age 5.
Tuition per Week
Infants -- $220.00
Waddlers -- $180.00
Toddlers -- $170.00
