Contractor Concrete Ready-Mix Design
by Proportion of Aggregate Fractions
Click on the "Contractor Mix Design" tab. In the blue boxes at the top of the page, complete
all project and contact information.
Identify the proposed aggregate. Obtain current specific gravities and absorptions by emailing
the Concrete Office: conc1off.dot@state.mn.us
Identify the proposed cementitious and admixture sources. Use the specific gravities for
cementitious materials on the Mn/DOT approved/qualified products list.
http://www.dot.state.mn.us/products/index.html#
Mix numbers must contain a Mn/DOT mix designation (ie. 3A32, 3A22, 3Y43, etc.). In the box
to the right of the mix designation box, number each mix (-1, -2, -3, etc.). Number the mixes
for the entire project consecutively regardless of the mix.
3A32 -1 3A22 -2 3Y43 -3
Enter the mix design weights for the water and cementitious materials. The proportions of
these materials will automatically appear to the right of the mix design weight boxes.
Enter the fine and coarse aggregate proportions. The weights of these materials will
automatically appear to the left of the mix design proportions boxes.
Enter the percent air content, slump and admixture dosage range that is within the
manufacturers recommended range from the Mn/DOT approved/qualified products list.
http://www.dot.state.mn.us/products/index.html#
In the upper right corner, enter the appropriate gradation in the aggregate designation box. If
a Job Mix Formula (JMF) is chosen, the Concrete Office will determine the JMF number after
the mix design is submitted.
All mixes on this design sheet must have the same proportions.
When a JMF, CA-15 or CA-35 gradation is chosen, enter the gradation for each fraction on
the appropriate tab.
The volume of the mix design must be 27.00 cf +/- 0.10 cf.
Email or fax the mix design to the Mn/DOT Concrete Office for approval.
