Traffic Crash Rescue Equipment To Be
Demonstrated at Grubstake Days Community Fair
YUCCA VALLEY, Calif.—San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters will demonstrate equipment
that helps remove victims from vehicle wreckage at this year’s Grubstake Days Community Fair being held at
the Yucca Valley Community Center (Dumosa/29 Palms Hwy.) in Yucca Valley on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at
1:30 p.m..

Equipment to be demonstrated includes hydraulic tools that cut, pry and bend metal parts, enabling firefighters
to free victims from vehicle crashes. Equipment purchased through a state grant was distributed to fire stations
that previously did not have enough of such equipment available.

“Wider distribution of this equipment improves County Fire’s ability to remove victims quickly, which
enhances survival rates,” South Desert Division Chief Al Stocker said. “It will help greatly in that first ‘Golden
Hour’ needed to get victims to the hospital. At the same time, though, we believe that showing a wrecked
vehicle and the effort required to free trapped passengers will help deter young drivers from drinking and
driving.”

Equipment used in the demonstration was purchased in the current fiscal year with a grant from the California
Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
