What You Need To Know
For Mr. Relyea’s Class
2007-2008 School Year
Welcome back to school! I hope you had a great summer. I’m excited to be your
anatomy and physiology teacher for the coming year. I know that together we can make
learning fun and exciting. However, in order for us to have a positive relationship and
get to the fun and exciting part I will need you to live up to certain rules and expectations.
Rules and Expectations:
1. Come to class prepared to work. I expect you to come
to class with all of the materials that you will need for the
period. I also expect you to complete any unfinished
assignments before working on anything else.
2. Respect yourself, all others in the room, and all
materials in the room. In my opinion you have to respect
yourself first. If you have a clear view of where you are
headed in life then you will naturally come to respect the
world around you, and the people who you share it with.
Respect is often hard to define; but it starts with listening
quietly to what others have to say, not disturbing others or
their belongings, and treating others how you want to be
3. Cheating will not be tolerated! If I believe that you are
cheating then that is all the evidence that I need. The first
time you are caught cheating you will receive a 0 on
whatever assignment you were caught cheating on, receive
a 30 minute lunch or after school detention with me, and a
letter will be sent home for your parents to sign and return.
If you are caught cheating again more serious actions will
be taken. In other words just don’t do it or be prepared to
face serious consequences.
In general I will try to keep assignments brief and meaningful, but I
will not hesitate to assign as much practice as I feel you need.
All assignments are due at the beginning of class. Any
assignments that are 1 day late will receive an automatic 10%
deduction from the points possible. After one day late assignments
will not be accepted for a grade, but can be corrected for review
As long as you live up to your end of the rules and expectations then
we shouldn’t have any problems. However if you do misbehave during
class these are the punishments you can expect to face.
1st offence: Verbal Warning
2nd offence: Meet with me for a 30 minute lunch or after school
detention during which time you will come up with a plan to correct
the behavior. The plan will be then be taken home and signed by a
parent or guardian and brought back the next day.
3rd offence: Meet with Mr. Holmes and an Individual Plan of Action.
In addition to my rules and expectations, you will be expected
to abide by the rules of the Sargent School District
Tardies & Absences:
Tardies: I expect you to be in your seat and ready to begin class
when the bell rings. Your first tardy will earn you a verbal warning.
Each additional tardy will cost you 5 points from your daily grade.
Absences: In order for you to excel at anatomy and physiology you
need to be in class as often as possible. For any family or school
related previously arranged absence you are expected to get your
make up work before the day(s) you will be absent. For any excused
unarranged absence you are expected to get your makeup work the
day you return. For unarranged absences you will be granted one day
for every day you missed to turn in your makeup work. It is your
responsibility not mine to ask for makeup work!
I will use the same grading scale that is in the Student Handbook:
100-90=A 89-80=B 79-70=C 69-60=D 59-0=F
You can earn 10 points per day for bringing all necessary materials to
class and working throughout the period.
Your final grade will be determined by. . .
50% End of chapter tests
10% Daily Point System
1. A notebook or 3-ring binder for taking notes
2. Pen and pencil
3. Colored pencils
4. Composition Book (for labs)
6. $15 lab fee
Please detach and return this portion of the syllabus.
I UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITIES
REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS AND I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THE
STUDENT/PARENT HANBOOK. I UNDERSTAND THAT GRADES
ARE EARNED BY STUDENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACADEMIC
PERFORMANCE. I AGREE TO HELP MAINTAIN AN ORDERLY,
PLEASAND, LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
