Basic Solicitation – Snail Mail or Email

Name
Address
City, State, Zip
Dear Name,

On (insert date here), I’m joining hundreds of participants for Connecticut Food Bank’s Walk Against
Hunger at (insert location here), and I need your help to make my efforts matter!

It is estimated that one out of seven families in our state is currently experiencing food hardship,
meaning they can’t always afford the food they need. Those affected are not just numbers. They are
real people. From your elderly neighbors with mounting medical bills to the family at your church that is
forced to choose between heating the house in winter and putting a meal on the table. For others, it’s
the unexpected job loss, illness or catastrophic event.

Connecticut Food Bank’s mission is to alleviate hunger, by supplying food products and resources to
more than 600 member hunger relief programs and by promoting public awareness about hunger. It is
the largest centralized source of emergency food in the state and has distributed more than 200 million
pounds of food since it was founded in 1982.

Working families are the most frequent users of food assistance programs. At time, even two incomes
are not enough to pay all the bills. Families and individuals often must choose between paying for food
or paying for other necessities such as utilities and medical care. And that’s why I’m walking – for
working families and the others who need this vital resource. My personal fundraising goal is $(insert
goal here) and I hope you’ll help me reach it.

By making a one-time, tax deductible donation, you can truly make a difference in the fight against
hunger. Please visit my online fundraising website at (insert website here) to make a donation or send
your contribution to me at (insert your name, Address, City, State, Zip). You can also mail it straight to
Connecticut Food Bank at P.O. Box 8686, New Haven, CT 06531. Checks can be made payable to
Connecticut Food Bank/Walk Against Hunger. Please reference my name on the bottom of your check.

Any amount you feel comfortable giving is deeply appreciated. After all, every dollar counts! With your
support we can make a positive impact in the mission to alleviate hunger.

Sincerely,

P.S. Your employer may have a matching gifts policy. If so you can easily double or triple your gift. Just
send in your company’s matching gift form along with your check.
Informal Solicitation – Snail Mail or Email

Hello Friends and Family!

Connecticut Food Bank’s Walk Against Hunger is coming up soon! And that means fundraising time
again…

Before you dismiss this, thinking, “I can’t afford to donate any money right now with the economy the
way it is,” consider this:

 One out of seven families in Connecticut is currently experiencing a food hardship, meaning they
can’t always afford the food they need.
 Working families are the most frequent users of food assistance programs.
 A simple donation of ONE dollar means Connecticut Food Bank can distribute FIVE dollars worth
        of food at wholesale value.
 Every $30 donated to Connecticut Food Bank can feed someone for a full month.

Besides, who can’t use another deduction on their taxes?? One hundred percent of whatever amount
you donate to Connecticut Food Bank is tax-deductible. Not only that, but 94 cents of every dollar of
total expenses directly supports the Food Bank’s program services.

Did I sway you?? Will you make even a $1 donation?? Please click on the link below, or go directly to my
personal fundraising page. No amount is too small, and every penny counts! (insert web address).

If you would rather send a check, please mail it to:

Economic Slump - Snail Mail or Email

Dear Friends and Family,

The past three years have had stock market charts looking like a series of rugged mountains. The jagged
peaks of the Dow remind me that it time to really focus on what’s important in life. For me, that means
making a difference in the lives of others. To do this, I am participating in Connecticut Food Bank’s Walk
Against Hunger. For the next few weeks, I’ll be preparing for the Walk by fundraising as much as possible
before the event on (insert date here).

I am asking for your help. Charities and nonprofits are struggling. Helping to keep their donations
coming in during this slow economic recovery is something we can all do to help others and to make a
difference in the lives of others and the local community. I choose to support Connecticut Food Bank
because all funds raised directly support hunger relief efforts in our area, and because even two-income
families need help more than ever.

I’m sending this email because I need your help to reach my fundraising goal. Every dollar you donate is
tax deductible. Even one dollar helps, because the Food Bank can turn that into FIVE dollars worth of
food for someone who needs it!

Please donate today by visiting my website. If you want to pass my email along to your friends and their
families, just send them this link: (insert link here).

If you would rather send a check, please send it to:
